The sister of American hostage Luke Somers says he was killed in a failed rescue mission in Yemen. Lucy Somers said: "We ask that all of Luke's family members be allowed to mourn in peace."
Luke Somers was abducted in September 2013 in Yemen's capital, Sanaa. This week, the Pentagon confirmed it launched an earlier failed raid to rescue him.

SANAA, Yemen — An American photojournalist held by al-Qaida militants in Yemen has been killed in a failed rescue attempt, his sister said Saturday. Lucy Somers told The Associated Press that she learned of her 33-year-old brother Luke Somers' death from FBI agents. There was no immediate comment from Washington, nor from security officials in Yemen's capital, Sanaa. "We ask that all of Luke's family members be allowed to mourn in peace," Lucy Somers said.
Yemen's local al-Qaida branch, Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, posted a video Thursday that showed Somers, threatening to kill him in three days if the United States didn't meet the group's demands, which weren't specified. He was kidnapped in September 2013 from Sanaa.
The news of the failed rescue comes after a suspected U.S. drone strike in Yemen killed nine alleged al-Qaida militants early Saturday, a security official said. The drone struck at dawn in Yemen's southern Shabwa province, hitting a suspected militant hideout, the official said. The official did not elaborate and spoke on condition of anonymity as he wasn't authorized to brief journalists.

These journalists do an important job. I don't see CNN over there telling us what is going on in places like this.

Try watching the international version of CNN, or BBC news, or even Al Jazera. All are far better sources of news than traditional US media outlets these days. This includes news on action in the US. Cable news in the US right now is a steaming pile of elephant shite.

Just heard that the kidnappers shot him during the rescue attempt, and he later died aboard a navy ship. Courtesy of WWL radio

Yep. I'd rather die in a gun battle. Hearing those frickers panic and scream. Much better than the already mentioned beheading after reading some prepared statement meant to make my parents cry or some other propaganda. Is there anything good in Yemen? frick these people.
We always joke about throwing up a wall on the Mexican border. frick that! The UN needs to throw up a wall around an entire country. Yemen and Afghanistan. Anything that tries to crawl, climb, or fly out dies.
