Two inches might not sound like much, but when it comes to legroom on an airplane, the measurements add up. To make room for more seats on its new Boeing 737 Max jetliners, American Airlines will reduce the space between some seats in economy class by 2 inches, CNN reports.
In three rows, the front to back space between seats will be reduced from 31 to 29 inches, while the rest of the economy cabin will be reduced to 30 inches.
For comparison, the seats on budget airlines Frontier and Spirit are spaced, at minimum, 28-inches apart, while the economy seats on Jetblue, Southwest and Alaska Airlines are placed 31 to 33 inches apart, according to a Cheap Flights analysis.
The decrease in space will allow for the addition of 10 seats to the single-aisle aircraft, for a total of 170 seats. Flyers with less legroom will pay the same price for seats as fellow economy passengers on the aircraft, which will take to the skies later this year.
If you don't like it, they'll hit you in the face with a stroller.

I'm 6'3" and was packed in like a sardine when I flew over the weekend. Guess I'll have to buck up for the extra leg room or fly another airline. frick airlines.

I agree.
Even on Delta, the 737 products are IMO the least comfortable type.

Currently on a United flight. I'm 6'3" and paid $50 for an exit row seat w no one in front of me. Money well spent...

I've also had a bad experience with them. Will never fly with them again.

I'm 6'4" and I feel your pain. If this goes through, I feel sorry for the person who sits in front of me because my knees will definitely be in their back. I mainly fly Southwest though.

American is a pure shite airline, and they don't care at all. I feel bad for people who live near AA hubs, and I'm so glad Southwest now flies direct from ATL to Love

I can barely fit in the motherfrickers as is. Two inches less and I'll have an even more difficult time. I can't imagine anyone taller than me trying to fly. fricking miserable.

Me too. Serious shite. They should have a fricking row of seats on every flight that you must be "this tall" to sit in. Or make exit rows ONLY for 6 foot+ passengers. frick that bullshite. Being tall isn't like being fat. We can't HELP that we're genetically superior.

I worked at a place that was all for paying for that expense for employees and one place that bitched and moaned until you called and explained "looky here travel bitch, I'm a big ole boy and them puddle jumper prop jernts have 3 exit seats on one row. I upgraded to one. Yall paying for it."

What is with the airline industry lately
Posted on 5/3/17 at 9:34 am to member12
I typically fly Delta or Southwest, and I've only ever flown American once. I was amazed as to how terrible they were across the board.
Is this just an outlier or are they really that much worse than the competition?

With the current environment/public attitude toward the airline industry being so friendly, this is the perfect timing for such an announcement.
Really gotta credit American's PR staff on this one.

I have to sit awkwardly enough as it is. Another 2" is a big difference.
