Amazon Launches Home Services

Amazon.com is extending nationwide an offering that connects shoppers with local service providers, including Dish satellite-television service, PepBoys auto-parts stores and handyman marketplace TaskRabbit.
quote:
The offering is designed in part to help customers find services after making a purchase on Amazon, such as installing a new car stereo.
quote:
Amazon takes a cut of between 10% and 20% of every service arranged through its site, depending on the type. Recurring services, such as house cleaners, are on the lower end of the range, presumably because Amazon is guaranteed more volume.
quote:
Faricy said the company vets the providers through background checks and customer-satisfaction audits, among other things. Amazon will work as a middleman to help resolve bad experiences and could ultimately refund a customer’s money — up to $2,500 — he said. Customer disputes or refunds can damage a service provider’s rating in future searches.

It's officially a two-horse race between Wal-Mart and Amazon for world domination

Well this is Uber's business model so I am standing by for the haters from that to jump on Amazon now.
I am going to be a hell of a lot more selective about who I let in my home as opposed to who I take a five minute car ride with to the bar.

Wait 1-2 days for my purchase or go stand in line at Walmart?
If Amazon starts delivering fresh produce and perishable goods, I may never set foot in Wally World again.

If only they had hookers...

I would rather wait 2 days for an item rather than stand in a line at Wal-Mart.

For what TaskRabbit pays you aren't going to get the most reputable individuals signing up to provide services.

Still cheaper than a hooker.

Amazon just launched 1 hr delivery in Dallas for Prime members. Order at noon, have item by 1pm. Really no reason to go to Walmart ever. It's awesome!
