Amazon employees have to wait up to 25 minutes in line to leave work.

To prevent theft.

The workers sued and wanted to be paid for that time. They lost 9-0 in the Supreme Court yesterday.

I agree with the workers. If I get off work at 5pm and I can't even get to my car until 5:25 that's bullshite. That's over 100 lost hours a year just waiting in line to get off work.

I obviously used to be a thing at Amazon... I have no problem with protecting product loss.

They should stagger clock in and clock out times and would probably cut the wait down to 5 minutes.

No problem with preventing product loss but 25 mins of unpaid time everyday, that's the problem

Seems like b.s. to make them stay there at the behest of the employer and not get paid.

I think in the poli board thread it was clarified that the wait is almost always less than a minute or two.

Amazon spokeswoman Kelly Cheeseman said the allegations in the Integrity case of a lengthy security screening process were "simply not true." She added that Amazon's screening process is designed to take 90 seconds per employee at its facilities.

While I think they should get paid, they need to pick their battles. The more expensive they are to Amazon the sooner it's economically viable to replace them with a robot which we know is in Amazon's plans.

I don't get paid for the time it takes to ride the elevator, nor do I get paid for the time it takes me to get out the parking lot and navigate through traffic.

Sounds like instead of the employees stealing from Amazon Amazon is now stealing from the employees.

9-0 ruling means there is WAY more to this than the little attention grabbing headlines. Average wait was LESS THAN A MINUTE, only once did it take 25 minutes.

True, but it sounds so much better to pick out the one time it took someone 25 minutes and run with it, doesn't it?

Years ago employees of Best Buy sued the company because once the store closed, employees would clock out when done with their duties but would have to wait around off the clock for the one manager to come to the front to check their bags/pocket and let them out of the locked building.

Best Buy lost and was forced to pay a settlement to their employees.

It's sad that Amazon won't be forced to do the same.
