I am the "boss" of my company. We aren't in retail and I don't work at McDonald's so I do not care at all what my employees do while they are working as long as they get the work done. We have flexible schedules, too, but you better get the work done. Those deadlines are coming whether you are ready or not and they will tell the story as to how you have been spending your time. I have better things to do than to stare over someone's shoulder all day or worry that they were on the phone or Facebook or something.

Why would you need validation here if you were truly a real a leader or manager?

Think George Patton ever asked anyone if he was being an a-hole?

He must have been a pretty big a-hole to get HR called on him over something like that.

He could have just said it in a joking way and everything would have been fine. Or you know...just send her an email with some tasks to do for the day.
