Always wondered: how exactly do you eat cheese fries?

I'm talking about the kind where they put shredded cheese over it and throw it in an oven. You know it; plenty of restaurants sell it. But when you try to pick one up, half of them come up with you. Not to mention, the entire bottom half doesn't get anything.
Why is shredded cheese the norm when queso/cheese dip the better option?

If they are that covered in cheese then I use a fork.
Eta:
Until now have you just been staring at them and never attempted to eat them?

Just cheese melted over fries? I honestly don't recall seeing that on a menu. Chilli cheese fries, yeah.

I guess I'm thinking of Texas cheese fries.
It's just such a pain in the arse to change the nature of French fries for poorly planned cheese choices

Not to go all Food Board on ya but....
French Fries are just potatoes. Put whatever you put on any kind of potato from raw through mashed to tater salad. Eggs, pickles, bacon, cheeses, gravy's,... you name it and it can probably go on french fries.
Then, if in public and they're kinda messy (the fries, not the public) grab a spork, fork, or spoon.

It's a little bit of a bummer when it's just melted shredded cheese instead of cheese sauce.

It's not in my experience.
I thought Louisiana was supposed to be good at food?
Oh wait, y'all are only good at making literally everything spicy and boiling overgrown bugs pulled from muddy ditches

Yeah. That's what we do.

Ask for it layered.
Use a fork.

Fork and honey mustard if it doesn't have chili.

Who knew cheese fires were the litmus of the food world??
And F&M's cheese fries at 1am are the bees knees.

OP has obviously never been to F&M's. 1) You take a fork. 2) You stab a pile of cheese fries. 3) You put as many cheese fries/chili cheese fries as possible in your mouth. 4) Repeat.
