I went to Roatan for a day on a cruise stop and loved it. I would definitely consider going back for a land vacation if it is an all-inclusive. Must stay on the West end around West Bay Beach.

I have been as far south as St. Lucia. So what is your point? How much futher south do I need to go to find these amazing economies and cities?

Any city/town you go outside the resorts is terrible. Any place we have been we have been told do not go out there past 9 PM. Stay in well lit areas and do not carry a wallet or purse where it can be taken easily.

I used them to go to Punta Cana two summers ago and loved everything about it.

I took my family to Puerto Rico this summer. It was great. Stayed at the Waldorf Astoria El Conquistador in Fajardo.

No passports needed and a $350 flight from MSY.

Then you obviously haven't been to St. John for one. And resorts?

Roatan is great and affordable once you get there. I've been there a few times and it isn't really an all inclusive type of place but the prices are fairly cheap. If anyone goes they absolutely have to take a drive and eat at Cal's Temporary Cantina. It's easily the best food on the island.

I just saw a Booze Traveler episode to Belize. Not for the booze necessarily but it made me really want to go there. Looks laid back and chill as frick.

I looked into it but getting there without spending 12+ hrs in airports(I don't live next to major airport) was the problem. At my kids age if I can avoid that it's better for everyone

at that roatan resort, kids can go to a daycare where they teach the kid how to train, give instruction to, and swim with dolphins

Anthony's Key Resort doesn't have the best reputation on Roatan. Apparently their treatment of the animals is less than stellar.

There is an awesome one in Playa del Carmen called Paradisus Playa Del Carmen La Esmeralda LINK. They have a family concierge and the kids can actually call and get special room service and kid activities. You can get swim up rooms and they have a water park area for kids. If your family does not include kids, next door they have a resort that is adults only.

You can book through Costco and it's pretty inexpensive.

Flights to Cancun are inexpensive and Playa is pretty safe as far as Caribbean destinations go, though you could stay on resort the entire time if you wish.

It seems like a travel agent is really not needed at all anymore.

I have only used one once in my life and that was only because I was having a difficult time choosing between a few places to go for honeymoon. Good experience but I don't find them necessary for most stays.

Read reviews, know your budget, know your wants, know your needs, and bookaway.

I had never heard of that place before, but my wife recently took a girls trip there and said she loved it.

I prefer to do my own research and book my trips.
