A father and son were killed in a head-on collision with each other early Saturday morning in Fayette County.

Alabama state troopers say alcohol is a factor in the crash that killed Jeffrey Morris Brasher, 50, and Austin Blaine Brasher, 22.

They both lived in Bankston. The crash occurred at around 4:10 a.m. on Fayette County 49, one mile west of Winfield, when the 2006 Ford pickup the elder Brasher was driving collided with his son's 2004 Chevrolet pickup, according to troopers.

Terrible situation, but this is the type of things you open yourself up to when driving drunk.

I've done it before but have since matured and realize how stupid I was. It's not worth it people, as someone who has driven drunk and also got hit head on by a drunk driver, it's just not worth it. Call someone, anyone, but if you're too fricked up, please don't drive.

Just glad no one innocent was a victim in this case. While I hate it for the family, at least it was only the 2 driving drunk.

One was on the way home and the other was on the way to work from what I understand.

That sucks for the wife/mother.

Reminds me of a something which happened around 2000 with a co-worker of mine. The guy was a brilliant programmer, exceptional a co-worker and a genuinely nice person.

His wife and him had been having marital problems and she phoned him during the night when he was on his way home from offshore to tell him they would not be there when he arrived home. The lived in rural Texas. He was rushing home to try and arrive before the wife and son left and by sheer bad luck they crashed into each other at a four way junction. The husband/dad was the only survivor. The poor guy just gave up his career and life altogether. Not sure what eventually happened with him as I lost touch over the years.

Just because one was drunk doesn't mean the other was too.

Tragic.

Please don't drink and drive people. It's not worth it.

My question is who will find a way to file a suit against the mom and whatever is left of the family? You know somebody will.

Mom could actually be next of friend for both estates, however, it is likely that both cars were on the same insurance policy. Likely, if insured, the policy will go ahead a pay the mom the policy limits. Or the insurance company could deny paying at all saying that one or both parties were wanton and negligent by drinking and driving.

If it can be proven either of the two were at a bar or a party, and were visibly drunk and over served, but were continued to be served, they could go after under the Alabama Dram shop laws.

These guys are from my hometown....which is super-duper small town Alabama. I know the father as he's done business with my dad for years. He was a hard working friendly guy. I moved away before the son was born. It's a very horrible tragedy that could've been prevented. I feel real bad for the family members left behind. How do you process this type of thing?
