Long story short: I flew to Denver today from Memphis for a conference which begins Saturday. My company is paying for hotel rooms Friday and Saturday here, but I wanted to see Denver for the first time so I Airbnb my trip. At 3 p.m., the guy cancels. My flight leaves a couple hours later and I cannot find anything - hotel, Airbnb, nothing - in Denver. I am at the hotel now that is hosting the conference I am attending. Registration actually starts (today now) at 3 p.m.

I asked the guy at the front desk if there were any openings and he said no. And cancelations, maybe, but not until they release the rooms at 1 a.m. Well, the room rates are $299-349/night. I am here in the lobby, cringing at spending that much money.

Question: if there is a cancelation and a room opens up, do I have any negotiating power to get a better rate? I mean, something is better than nothing right?

If no, then what would you do? This sucks!

Damn, that sucks.

Call around maybe? Ask the front desk if they have any hotels they can refer you to?

I've never Airbnb'd but I'd assume there's some sort of cancellation policy. Anything you can use to your advantage?

Quite possibly. I rent out all the time and love it. This is the first time ever as a guest. I tell you what, a cancellation puts you in an impossible situation.

Hotels hate Airbnb so much that I am afraid to say that is what happened.

So don't. I meant with the Airbnb cancellation. Anything to use to your advantage with the company...

I have to ask which hotel? I am literally sitting in the lobby now at the Denver Airport Marriott at Gateway Park where my conference is.

Could be worse, it could be a NOLA convention with the heat and the crime. I'd tool around for a bit til something opens up. Not a bad place to be stranded for a couple hours.

I'm showing at least 35 hotels available for tonight at Marriott.com with all but 2 of them being less than the rack rate you're being quoted.

I Airbnb all over Europe with absolutely zero issues. Only when I tried to book in the states I've been cancelled.

Do you not know how to use the internet? There are hundreds of hotels available in Denver.

Well shite. I thought Marriott fixed this issue with the new app. Guess not. I ran into this problem when getting stuck with airline delays.

HotelTonight app should get you something.
