Do you have your air conditioner and heater serviced regularly? I have been living in my house for 5 years and have never had my unit serviced for general maintenance. I know many people can easily let this slide. I figured I need to stop putting this off before any major damage is done. Is it overrated to have this done or worth it.

Also, if you have any reputable places in the Prairieville/Gonzales area I would appreciate it.

I change the filters per the instructions.

Reputable and AC companies ain't really a thing. There's just varying levels of how bad they gonna try to screw you.

Everyone has to butter their bread. But seriously getting the coil cleaned helps. I'd tell ya how to do it yourself but that would take food off someones table.

CHANGE YA FILTERS!

As I understand it that's all they do when they come out to do a "checkup". Basically spray water on the coils.

If only there was an online portal that hosted millions of videos on how to do everything, cats, broscience, twerking, ghetto fights and more. Kind of like watching the tube except you upload the content.

Over time the evaporator coil (inside coil) will clog up with dust/debris. Regurally changing filter helps but MERV 8 wont block everything. you can vacuum the coil clean, or use a UV light install kit to keep the coil clean over time.

Condensing unit coil (outdoor unit) will clog up with pollen, crass clippings, leaves, dirt, ect. If you are halfway handy you can clean it yourself. Kill the main disconnect, take the top off, and use a hose with nozzle to blow the coils clean from the inside of the unit to the outside. Re-install the top, and hit the disconnect back on. If you are a millennial, call a service company..

i work for an hvac company and do this on a daily basis. Save yourself 100.00 and clean the exterior coils yourself with a hose.

Most of the hvac companies don't clean the outside coil correctly anyway. If you don't take off the hood and the sides to thoroughly clean the coil it's a hack job anyway.

For what you are paying for this "checkup" it's not terribly surprising.

I DIY and it takes a few hours to do the outside and inside but I know it's done right.

Biggest DIY maintenance that people neglect is filters. Most times the tech will find the old filter sucked up into the plenum it is so plugged.

Just had my bi annual yesterday. He took about 90 minutes. Sprayed evaporator coils, then rinsed, flushed drain line, checked furnace operation, limits, temps, even disassembled furnace exhaust to check for obstructions. ( I was in and out the attic bringing up christmas stuff)
Checked a/c temps in and out of system, freon pressures, clean outside unit, etc. Think I pay $140 per year for two visits. Worth it to protect an expensive system.

I have the same type service. Would recommend.

Anytime you get a hot or cold snap in the south just look at this board with all of the dumbass HVAC questions. Biannual service is totally worth it to me to not be in that "service needed now!" group.
