The investigation into Daniels' online activity began after ATC located the username "Honey Dew Fusions" on Instagram and observed messages between buyers and the "Honey Dew Fusions" account that referenced the cost of bottles of fruit-infused vodka. Investigators also noted posts that referenced the location of the business as being within the Baton Rouge city limits.

quote:

An ATC undercover operative used an Instagram account to pose as a buyer and inquired about purchasing a bottle of the advertised vodka. Daniels responded to the message and provided details about the cost and quality of the product. The operative was able to purchase the alcohol for $20 through a PayPal account.

quote:

Several weeks later, a 750ml bottle of the alcohol arrived in a package with a return address located on Sherwood Commons Blvd. in Baton Rouge. The bottle was sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab where it was analyzed and determined to contain 11.4% alcohol by volume.

quote:

Agents say Daniels did not make his own vodka, but instead bought cheap vodka and bottled it with various foods.

I see how it's illegal but I don't see anything wrong with what he is doing. Dude is just trying to make a dollar.

Interesting. Technically he paid the taxes on it when he purchased the cheap arse vodka.

Morally and ethically there's nothing wrong with it (assuming he's not selling to people under 21 blah blah), he's just not registered as a distributor and I'm assuming he wasn't exactly carding.

With alcohol, I'd argue it's actually the big producers that frick the little ones over. From what I understand, the distributor system is very much stacked in favor of the big boys.

It gets preachy at the end, but Beer Wars is a fantastic documentary that talks about this (albeit with beer).

I know in a lot of places Anheuser Busch is the ONLY beer distributor. Definitely a conflict of interest there.

I make no judgements one way or the other, nor should I.

Glad to see this...someone gave me several bottles of mid grade tequila as a gift, but im not a tequila drinker at all. Was considering the legality of selling them on craigslist, since it would be a private buyer and not distributing to a licensed retailer. I think ill just hold onto it for guests who come over.

AB still owns distributorships? I thought they did away with those in the 90s

Had a hard time sleeping last night knowing stuff like this goes on. Hopefully, the local government will make me feel even safer by busting a massage parlor or setting up an inspection sticker check point also.

And how much did ATC spend on this "undercover investigation"? It's illegal, I get that. You can argue you don't want unlicensed people making and selling (rebottling?) food items, blah, blah, blah.

HERE is a concept. ATC gets a tip, picks up phone, calls guy and says "Hey, don't do that as it is illegal and here is a packet of information on how to do it legally. Have a nice day." I don't know, a government agency providing service instead of trying to incarcerate people, a new idea?
