Had to put my chocolate lab down a few months ago and now the family and I are ready for another one or two which brings me to my question. What are the pros and cons of two puppy's from the same litter vs. one puppy.

Twice as much dog shite on the carpet.

Really though, I’ve gotten two puppies before. They were golden retrievers from a litter someone just left in a box in front of our vets. We wanted one, there were only two left, got one, made it about two miles down the road before we had to go back and get the other one.

Other than there being some genetic disorder (like red mange) the only problem I’d see would be that your doubling the care load you’ll have to deal with.

Two puppy's what? What is it that the puppies possess that you want to adopt?

the work you do with one puppy doesnt double when you have 2. Plus they will entertain each other.

I made a mistake and got my dobe when he was a puupy and didnt get a 2nd. Could have done the same ammount of work and had 2 of them. When i have to get another, i will get 2 at a time.

Do it man, they will be companions for life. I took in a stray and I'm going to get her a buddy, she cries when she sees other dogs.

I don't mind having two dogs at once, but I don't think I could handle them both being puppies at the same time.

That's just me, though. Whether you go with two or one, enjoy the heck out of them.

My friend and I bought labs from the same litter. there were 3 left. I took two and he took one. training was much easier for me. They would see the other do something and be rewarded for it, so they would follow. Also, they weren't nearly as hyper since they always had someone to play with.

this obviously isn't a 100% thing, but it worked well for me.

We foster many puppies from the same litters. Every time, the adopter only got one. However, I do see special bonds forming among the soblings, although it may be just because they are kept together.
Dogs will adapt to thier surroundings, but personally, I feel if two from the same litter are adopted together, it will help the both of them transition to their new environment better. Plus, you're helping out twice the amount of dogs and they will have that playmate.

The stray I took in has some terrier in her, bitch is wearing me out and she runs 2 to 3 miles a day with me and she is still amped.

It's not necessarily about the bonding as much as it's about the dominance.

One of the puppies will establish himself as the "pack leader" over the other one, whereas you are supposed to be the only pack leader in the situation.

My wife and I are both 67. We picked up two puppies recently and it has worked out perfect. they keep each other entertained and I bring them to the dog park every day to play with other dogs. Watching them play brings peace of mind and i think it lowers my blood pressure. Getting two is the best decision I have made all year.

I got two puppies and they are 10 years old now. I am without a doubt the pack leader. I honestly couldnt' tell you which one is the leader of the two of them. They are inseparable though.

It's nice that they always have each other, and the few times in their life where they have been seperated, the other looks miserable. One of them is about to die, while the other is still as young and energetic as a 2 year old. He is going to be pretty sad when his sister goes.

But i will say that when we do somethign like walk with both of them or sit out in the front yard, they tend to stay together as opposed to staying with me. I can walk one of them, and they will never leave my side. When it's both of them, i'm constantly correcting them, when it's just one, i don't have to say anything.

They literally do everything together. One will see a squirrel and will start going after it but look back to make sure his sister is following.

As terrible as it sounds, i'm looking forward to having just one dog. Tired of paying twice as much for food and shots and what not, and i'd like to take them more places but as i mentioned, its difficult when they are together, and i hate leaving one to go do somethign with the other b/c the one that gets left cries uncontrollably while we are gone.

we got a lab/shepherd mix that we love for my birthday a few years back.

my wife was pretty hesitant but she really grew to love him. annoyingly to be honest.

after about a year she really wanted another one to my complete shock. she just wanted somebody for him to be with when we were out.

we were going to get a german shepherd, but i stupidly opened the door for a lady and she grabbed it before me as the shelter opened. ended up seeing a year old coon hound that was neurotic, but sweet as could be and ended up winning my kids over. when we got her home, we let her in the gate and she ran over to my lab, gave the let's play sign and they started fighting and running around the yard.

it's been really great as they do fight and play a bit, but they also are really protective of each other and our family.

the coonhound is a moron that will go up to anything and start licking and i've seen my lab bulldoze a pit that was growling at her the wrong way.

they get into trouble a lot together too.

Personally I'm a 2 dog person, I think dogs need dog companionship, especially when no one is home.
