There are mostly country and redneck accents in my neck of the woods. Mine is country and I cannot help it. But what does drive me up a wall is a redneck accent.

Rednecks say thinks like "hit" instead of "it." They say "furda" instead of "for her to." They say "thankee" instead of "thank you." Instead of "him" or "them" they will say "eem." Frankly I think many people do it not because they are unaware of how they sound but because they are well aware and think it is cute.

I have noticed a difference in Cajun accents too. Some are melodic. Others not so much.

Do some people in Cajun country put on their accents (i.e. lay it on thick) like rednecks do where I am from? Is some of it for show or do they really talk that way?

Definitely. Redneck is like the white version of ebonics. I'd say a country accent is when someone has good grammar but has that drawl on certain sounds

I've never heard either of these spoken. What's "for her to" supposed to mean? Use it in context.

Meh, not so bad. What drives me batshit is Paula Dean, that womans accent is so redneck bad I used to have to turn the sound down on the TV when my wife would watch her cooking show. She's from Savannah, but I swear she puts it on thick on purpose. Its terrible. And Im from Georgia and she pisses me off.

It was difficult "furda" make ends meet.

Male version; It was difficult "fureemda" pass second grade.
