.... when using "off-brands" like Goodman, Ameristar, Payne, Gree, Haier, Coaire, etc. Reading that many of these have the same components as some major brands. Looking for a 2.5 ton heat pump split system for my upstairs. Thanks.

No brand won't make a difference.

Buy for a reputable company that will install it correctly and then make sure you change the filters regularly and have it inspected every 1-2 years.

I was told by my AC guy the same thing. He installed a Goodman FWIW. Haven't had any issues to speak of yet. My house is freezing most of time. I dumped $$$ into my insulation though.

I've got a few people trying to steer me away from most of these brands because they are "budget systems" and I don't know shite except major systems costing dammed near double.

My brother in law will be doing the install, but I can get the entire system shipped for $1300 (Gree condenser, Haier air handler, 8kw heat strip)

Heat pump or regular AC? what sized unit? Did you replace inside and out?

As long as they're using all aluminum or plated evaporator coils, the quality of the installation will probably make the most difference.

When ordering of the internet a lot of the manufacturers will not honor any warranty. Be careful about ordering from there!

Of course every installer will say his is "as good as" or "same parts as" some other more perceived reputable brand such as Trane or Carrier, etc.
I'd say the bigger names are better, but no perfect system is out there. I don't think there is a fail safe system. I base this on prior experience and hearing from others.

Detmut

Central A/C is not even close to being in the same ballpark as a Mini-Split .. nice table you posted, but useless for the OP.
