Worst part of the drive is between Pensacola and Lake City..

Oh yeah, I hope you don't plan on leaving the Sunday after Thanksgiving... We drove to Disney that Sunday, and it took us about 3 hours to get from Gainesville to the turnpike because of stop and go traffic...

To me, the drive across I-10 in Florida is the worst part.

This is near suicidal.

The best is in some spots they'll have the Cafe Risque signs right next to the anti-abortion signs.

Done this drive several times. I 75 is three lanes and people drive fast. Be careful.

What's nice about 75, truckers can only use the right lane and the middle lane to pass. Florida state troopers take that shite pretty serious...

Don't forget to count the drive back.

So, over 24 hours of driving vs. 4 hours of flying.

This is not an example of good decision making.

And let's not pretend he is going through the picturesque Rockies, even if John Denver is full of shite.

It's not too bad.

Use the Waze app on your phone to alert you of any traffic or speed traps.

Generally you are just going to take 10 to Lake city then take 75 south, but I say use Waze because sometimes it may be better to go to Jacksonville and take 95 south.

95 is a nicer drive than 75 as well.
It's 25 more miles but depending on road conditions sometimes it is a little better.

depends how much flights cost x the amount of people vs what a day is worth to you. When you fly you need a rental car so that's extra plus insurance on that, +$10 a day if both of you are driving the car.
Just me, I fly every single time. Me, SO+ kids we drive. I can also make it to Miami in less than 12 hours.

It's gonna suck. The entire trip. Looking at billboards will be the only thing to look at.

Then, when you get there, you have to be in a place where TigerNMiami will be in the vicinity. So again, it's gonna suck.

Stop in Wildwood, Fl. just before turnpike and top off your gas tank. All the service plazas are Shell gas stations and usually cost more per gallon.

Yeah, if you have 3-4 people in the car, driving can make sense.

I agree. Driven it many times. It is worth the tolls. Prolly cost you about 15 bucks total but it is worth it.

Take I-10 to I-95 to avoid tolls and lose an hour but if you go I-75, you can stop in Gainesville. Geaux Gators!

I've gone from WPB to NOLA many times and St. Augustine to NOLA even more...it's just an interstate

unless of course you want to take the turnpike

Any advice on roads to avoid or what the difficult stretches of road will be?

You need:

- Sirius/XM radio... or else something capable of playing mp3's on a 32gb usb stick, put every bit of music on it you own and hit "shuffle"... maybe even audio books, go to Cracker Barrell for a good free swap'em selection

- two cases of 5 hour energy drinks

- Waze, Inrix, or Road Ahead apps or similar

- a solid assortment of Little Debbie snacks and granola bars

- extra toothpicks for your eyelids

- a couple cans of Seafoam to throw in your gas for better mileage

- Escort radar detector

- a couple of friends to drive with you

- and preferably a plane ticket and direct flight.

Good luck. You're gonna need it. Hope you don't get there and have to turn right around and come back.
