Abandonned Motel on Airline Hwy near Highland Rd
Does anyone remember this place? I can see it on Google Maps from an areal view (16099 Airline Hwy, roughly) but I tried to show my gf this weekend and it is completely overgrown and hidden, although it appears to be somewhat structurally intact.

The place would make an awesome exterior for a horror film and I remember bringing friends there to buy cigs from the lobby back in the mid 90's. Does anyone know the story on this place? I want to take pics, but there are "no trespassing" signs all over the lot plus the undergrowth is out of control.

Do a screen shot and draw exactly where you're talking about.

I think it's called the Royal Motel. They still have one of those green highway signs with the name on it somewhere right around there on airline.

go to the library and go to the Polk City Directories or see if you can get online access to the Sanborn Fire Insurance Map coverage

Highland and Fair Grounds.

Its next to 2 pretty old house and behind that newer subdivision. Kinda across from the heavy equipment rental yard.

Also, I'm pretty sure the Royal is the motel/whorehouse attached to Southern Komforts.

This, almost directly under the electrical lines that cross Airline. It's been overgrown for as long as I remember. I pass it everyday.

I don't know that you can see it anymore (aside from putting that address into Google Maps). It's been unkept as long as I can remember, but I was hoping it was still functional.

Look for the 7-Up sponsored sign if it's still there. You can also probably smell rape from the highway.

I used to live in Pecan Creek across from the State Fair Grounds. I used to ride my bike down the street that backs up to motel on my way to work at that McDonald's. I vividly remember seeing what looked like rental cars there parked out by the rooms. There is no chance that there was not prostitution going on there. I also remember a rumour about there being some kind of store or bar there that only sold single beers and half pints of hooch. It was allegedly called "Steve's" and it was supposedly a hang out for people that went to Woodlawn but who knows. Kids tend to spread shite around just to do so.

That's not something I'd be telling people, chief.

Apparently the Bellmont is a makeshift movie studio nowadays.
