A Question About Being Accepted Into Tulane

A little while ago I was talking to my mom, she was telling me about someone's daughter who graduated from BRCC this semester. She went on to tell me the girl is going to Tulane in the fall for something in law, but not a lawyer (I asked if it was a paralegal she said that was probably it).
My mom gets shite confused, but I asked her "so this girl graduated from BRCC and will be going to Tulane to become a paralegal?" and she said "yes that is what her mother told me".
First, is it likely for Tulane to accept someone coming out of community college? Next, if I had to guess, I would say Tulane has a program for paralegals, which isn't equivalent to a 4 yr degree.. Is that correct? With Tulane being as expensive as it is, I just thought it would be unlike this person would be going there, not to mention, it seems like it would be a lot of money to spend on becoming a paralegal. Maybe I am missing something.

Thanks man, I guess I should have looked it up before asking the OT, but I am still interested to know if it is not unreasonable for someone to get accepted into Tulane after graduating community college.

If you don't buy khaki shorts and a fishing shirt with sunglasses (with a strap that goes around your head), and some sort of hat... You'll probably be expelled

apart from a "continuing education" type thing, it seems highly unlikely. but maybe some radical affirmative-action initiative would be an exception.

I mean if she has the grades, why not they wouldn't accept her?

You just described every SEC school

Even for you, this is stretching thread-idea material.

She's probably just getting a certificate, so it isn't like she would be a regularly admitted student.
LSU has continuing studies programs and tons of people who can't get into LSU go to them.
So you get the LSU name (or in this case the Tulane name) without having to meet the requirements.

I guess so. I just didn't know how it worked. When someone earns a two year degree, is their ACT score, HS GPA, etc still relevant?

I don't think it's a leap to get a 4.0 at BRCC (if she did) and get accepted for a transfer to Tulane. You probably won't be very competitive for scholarships, but if you're willing to pony up full tuition, then I can see it happening

WTF, dude? Some two-year programs (PTA, OTA, RN, etc.) are more competitive to get into than four-year university programs. Why is your thread trying to throw shade at people who choose to pursue two-year programs and community college programs?

Students from 2 year institutions are looked fondly on in 4 year because they proved themselves in an academic environment.

I know LSU has continuing studies programs, Its just that I am not familiar with Tulane. I just know it cost a lot to go there and many of the students there are from out of state.

A paralegal program is not even remotely on par with a standard four-year degree program. There are only a few basic prerequisites required for potential applicants.

Yes, LSU offers a very similar program.

Tulane has that. They have a center for continuing studies in the mall in Biloxi, MS. There are a couple of them, I think.

Yes, it will make you turn queer....oh, wait what was the question?

Okay, so yeah, evidently they left out the "continuing education" part out. Of course "she is going to tulane for law.. to become a paralegal" sounds better.

The SCS was University College back in the day. Doesn't have the same standards. The cost was traditionally on par with equivalent programs at Loyola and UNO.
