If you have any spare time, this was an excellent show...well, I watched it in 2011, according to Netflix, but it was good when I watched it then! There is probably better out there now.

I read something about a pile of F15's (the rest of the world wishes they had something as good as the F15) against one F-22 and none of them ever saw it with their eyes or radar for the duration of the exercise. It shot them all down every time with ease.

Pretty cool read

quote:

When it comes to fighting Raptors, regeneration is an expected occurrence for WIC Red Teams. "We do everything we can to try and challenge them: We increase our total numbers, we regenerate, we electronically jam the environment. And we die," Brenton says. "We die wholesale. We are kill-removed repeatedly and then regenerated, and then we are killed again. The process would be demoralizing if we didn't maintain proper perspective

Very cool shite.

To think we have something that can effortlessly dominate our other planes which are untouchable in the rest of the world is a real testament to what people are capable of if you give them enough money to play with

re: A Picture of the New 747 Engines
Well when you give the engineers enough money you get things like atomic bombs and F-22 raptors

I can't get over how well they were able to integrate aerodynamics and stealth geometry into the same package.

ETA: I got to see two of them fly when I was at the beach for my senior trip near tyndall AFB, along with plenty of F15's and a few 16s. I spent the entire week jealous as hell of the guys sitting in those seats.

I'm pretty sure most humans, regardless of gender, think fighter jets are cool.

Sadly, we will be losing a great one.

From my understanding, they eliminate so much sound that several hundred pounds of insulation can be removed from the fuselage.

Base weight is almost 400k; fully loaded is near 875k so saving a few of hundred pounds of insulation is really going to make a huge difference. How about keeping the extra insulation and makeing a quiter ride.

The profit margins for airlines are so thin that saving just a few hundred bucks in gas on a given flight makes a huge difference.

I hear what your saying but on a 747 it's not near as much of a concern as on a 48 seat RJ. Hell, on a 747 if you have four guys my boss's size get on instead of 4 people my wife's size and you've made up those pounds plus some.

re: A Picture of the New 747 Engines
A shame the 747 is on its way out. The advent of 100k lbs/thrust high bypass engines doomed the 4 engine plane. Having a plane with the legs and capacity of a 777-300 is a game changer.... For the middle eastern airlines at least.
