When I am in New York I feel like Uber is useless because there are cabs everywhere and the cab laws are strict as hell where you know they dont screw with the meter or "only accept cash". However, in cities like Nashville a cab is unreliable. You get in one and they charge whatever the hell they feel like and you have no clue what that might be. Uber is straight up and understood
Ride in cabs a bunch and you will quickly realize why uber is better. They show up, they are clean, they take credit cards, won't kick you out of the cab, and the drivers are much safer.
I used to take cabs/limos often. I would say 35%+ of my experiences were unpleasant. With uber I have had 3 bad experiences, twice the driver cancelled the fare before picking me up. And once the driver was just a terrible driver.

UBER works a lot better in middling towns like Shreveport, Lake Charles, and the like. Not in the big cities where there are already a ton of cabs. I know a UBER driver in Plano that makes some serious bank (over 150k a year)-almost twice what he made working at Texas Instruments as a research scientist.

Oh, they can kick you out if you start something with them.

That is a lot for the number of drivers that are out there.

Not that I'm saying you're full of shite, but a research scientist at TI making only $75k? That doesn't add up

I still like Uber in some of the bigger cities, even at night.
If you venture just a bit outside of the main tourist areas, its hard to find a cab.
Just pull out your app when you are thinking of leaving the bar. Click on it. Tells you it will be there in __ minutes, and how much its going to be. If its reasonable, do it and the driver is out there waiting for you pretty shortly. It will be clean and the driver won't be a dirty smelly a-hole, usually.
So easy.

Uber is a game changer in Houston. It's been an outstanding option for my wife and I over cabs. We actually sold our 2nd car because of it
Used it in Nola for the first time this weekend. Way cheaper than a cab would have been

Now this I can see. I've really only regularly used cabs in similar situations. I considered Uber for my last trip to Dulles (closes airport to my house in the sticks of Northern Virginia, but it actually didn't price favorably relative to the local cab company that only serves the Airport.

While the cab service here in Vegas is better than most cities, I'm ready for Uber to come back here if they ever get everything situated. I had to make a trip to the Strip last week to visit some friends and took about 45 minutes for dispatch to get a cab out to where I live and sometimes getting one back early in the morning to a residential area the cabbies on the strip hate driving you since they won't get a return ride.
The month or so that Uber was here, could always find a car within minutes even out where I live.

Tells you how long it will be until the car get there, tells you what kind of car it will be, shows you a picture of the driver, and how much the fair will be. Then it arrives right to where you are via GPS. I actually don't get how someone could NOT think its way better than a cab everywhere but a NYC type city where there are cabs literally everywhere.

I really don't want to hate on this guy. I get that his persistence paid off... I just can't help it.

I thought I just read a story about Uber losing shite tons of money?

all those nights in downtown BR waiting for a cab that was never coming. How the *bleep* did my friends and I not think of this.

1. Cheaper
2. App shows you where the Uber car is, and how long it will take to get you. Try that with a cab in BR or NO.
3. Just pay by phone, preset.
Cab companies could do this, but would have to adapt to new technology, and then it would be even more expensive.

I don't think some of you who are claiming that cabs are everywhere in NYC have spent too much time here. Yes, obviously the cab access is better here that in most other cities of the U.S., but Uber has its place here too.

Was just in Nashville for 4 days, we used Uber & Lyft the entire time.
