Baton Rouge will also have its annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day parade and march from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Monday starting at Mt. Zion First Baptist Church.

Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome said the city-parish is partnering with local organizations to celebrate King's life.

Broome will speak at 2 p.m. at Gus Young Park, 4200 Gus Young Avenue. The festivities at the park on Monday will kick off at 9 a.m. with a performance by Bryson “Cupid” Bernard who is best known for his song “Cupid Shuffle.”

Gus Young Avenue will be closed to traffic from 39th to 49th Streets between the hours of 6 a.m. to noon, city-parish officials said.

LSU will hold an MLK commemorative program from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Union Theater. New York Daily News reporter Shaun King will speak at the program and hold a fireside chat with students afterward.
