A cool little way to view the world you live in

Recall all the things you did today- perhaps you held the door for an old lady downtown, or made sure everything was turned off before going to bed. Chances are, you just did those things"mindlessly". You did them because you were TAUGHT that you are supposed to do certain things and follow certain rules, and you stick to those taught habits for the rest of your life.

Could you imagine how much more backwards we would be as a people if we decided to literally examine every moral we learned from our elders piece by piece to determine its usefulness? Not only would that represent a huge waste of time, it would stagnate society by repealing all of the important things our ancestors learned through trial and error and then passed down to us through values and education.

It's awesome to think that so many of the basic rules you follow every second you are alive- from reading to your children at night to waving to your neighbor- you perform without really thinking about it- instead, that behavior was passed down through the experiences of the thousands of years of our ancestors seeking through trial and error to cultivate optimal and fully helpful habits.

We greatly exaggerate the power of our intellect and our minds. To the point where we put million dollar pricetags on substancesless, formless art because we pride ourselves on using our mind to imagine what the piece could be or could represent.
