This should be really interesting.......

A beach on Algiers Point? Developer plans a West Bank getaway

quote:

The goal, he says, is to develop a getaway for locals and tourists that’s in scale with the neighborhood “without taking it to Miami Beach style.”

I think we've learned the locals will scare away the tourists.

Need a strict dress code.

Only PFG swim trunks can be worn.

No rap music.

It could be as nice as Miami Beach. I still wouldn't drive to the West Bank.

No thanks. I can get shot just as easily in the FQ without having to sully myself at some shitty beach.

They must be thinking it would be easier to clean up after a shooting I guess?

Algiers Point is a secretly nice area. Very old and left untouched for the most part by a dying city. I'm glad the leaders of New Orleans have decided to ruin that finally. A+ idea. Let's ignore the hundreds of obvious problems and build a fricking beach.

Read about this yesterday.... will never happen

Although I wouldn't mind seeing someone pump that sort of money into the city one way or another.

Reminds me of the 'trade district' or whatever that was proposed in the LGD couple years back

If there is one thing they are good at, it's this.

On behalf of all NOLA tourists...no thanks.

The planed $15 admission charge should help.

On an unrelated note, I don't think the Corps of Engineers and port will be too jazzed about it. The old Algiers Landing restaurant that jutted out into the river was hit once or twice by barges, and this looks to be much larger.

It's a developer proposing the idea...

The whole business plan for this thing doesn't make a lot of sense either way.

Putting a ton of fill and bulkhead right between a fed levee and fed revetment in one of the sharpest turns in the entire river...

For the engineers in here: can you imagine all the global stability shite they will have to go through with the Corps to get a 408 (permit to alter a federal levee) for that spot? The engineering fees alone will kill the economic viability of this idea.

The only way this would even remotely work is if it was some kind of members only deal to keep riffraff out or the price point was MUCH higher than 15 bucks.

I LOVE that rendition picture of the project, especially the pristine blue waters of the Miss River!
