re: A 3500 pound Great White Shark is swimming up and down the US East Coast

What is her motivation to swim all the way up the coast like that? Why don't they set up shop in an area?

well if a shark swims at a leisurely 5 mph for 24 hours straight every day, it can cover 1000 miles in 8 days an 8 hours

Except of of Seal Island in South Africa because of the food source. In all other Oceans and the Med they pretty much are. Also off of the Pacific Coast of Mexico they congregate in numbers.

I watched some series on Nat Geo a few years ago where they were tagging a bunch of great whites at Guadeloupe Island, and it seems that they came to the conclusion (or it looked like they did) that great whites congregate there for mating purposes. Otherwise, they're loners.

Yep. I couldn't think of the exact spot. But, sharks from there disperse to Hawaii and Oregon. Crazy stuff. Genetics from their parents have to be the cause.

They've got to move to get air. That probably isn't what that fish would consider a long trip.

They didn't say anything about closing beaches.I guess they figure if you get in the Atlantic in January you're on your own.
