airspace congestion, room for NAVAIDS, etc. ..... it is more than you can comprehend as to what goes into an airport.

Ain't happening, Landrieu didnt want to piss off Southwest. A couple capital groups formerly involved with Spirit Airlines are probable buyers of Frontier

Republic would probably shite themselves and cut Frontier loose in a heartbeat. Republic did well to buy all of those US Airways slots at DCA when US filed Chapter 11, but buying Frontier was an epic mistake.

Anyways, what MSY should do, raze Terminal A and rebuild it, put in a customs facility and move Southwest over there, then renovate Terminal B. Southwest is looking to being Carribean and Mexico services now that they are integrating AirTran. Houston Hobby is going to allow limited international flights, but MSY could really position itself as Southwest's Int'l gateway here.

This is a few weeks old, but related. Looks like the airport is adding a second international destination (to Cancun).

Looks like the airport has inched up a bit to # 39 as of 2012.

I saw Kenner government says it is also backing The North alternative plan.

That's entirely too sensible and there's not enough money for us to get all our buddies paid.

That's a good idea, considering that southwest is limited to where it can fly out of both hobby and love. Maybe MSY could really be a "gateway to the Americas" instead of having that b.s. sign and only having a seasonal charter flight to cancun.

But southwest will probably just operate those routes out of ATL. Which is a shame because msy location is great for flights to the Caribbean and central America.

This is what MSY used to be until the 70's, what with Delta moving their hub to Atlanta, the emergence and growth of Houston and Southwest Airlines, and also the re-emergence of Miami as a destination again. New Orleans is on the way to re-emerging. We should be able to handle some 747's or Dreamliners, cause they will be coming in the future.

local government (Kenner) is really pushing this North alternative.
I think it will clean up Veterans, as new hotels will spring up. Also it would improve access and have a simpler layout.

MSY is not about to be a hub.

It is too small a city. Please remember that New Orleans is nothing close to being a big city.

Size of the city doesn't have that much to do with it, charloette isn't much bigger than New Orleans but its a hub. Ease to do business is what matters. Nola is too corrupt to make it worth anyone's worth while.

I wish...but this is very, very far off (and will likely never happen) considering the largest plane they have flying in now is 757. The international routes aren't exactly extensive either.

Charlottle may or may not be much bigger but you missed the fact it has a huge banking presence which just might give it a bit of a nudge.

True. But MSY's location between Houston and Atlanta really screws it. It may be a good location for Latin American connections. No airline is going to shift or canabalize their existing routes to MSY

not really worried about being a hub, just want a better terminal and streamlined security. Plus not having to go through security if you are connecting to a United from Southwest.

If you're connecting from united to southwest anywhere you're screwed espicially if you're checking a bag.
