You too can own a Samsung S5 for four times what it retails for.

AKA why poor people stay poor.

That rent to own scheme works out great for them.

"Worry free" payment means "we got your bank account and are getting your money"

Conn's is being sued right now for predatory practices on their financing which is basically rent to own. I don't see why though. If people are stupid enough to fall for it, then so be it.

Pretty sure you can get out of that contract if you take the phone back.

A guy that works for me went and borrowed $700 for 6 months from a finance company. He is going to be paying back over $1000. He just got $8000 back from the IRS...... His reasoning " 'I'm gonna spend thier money and not mine"

Well, he loaned the federal government $8K, for a year, for free, so he's probably not the sharpest knife in the drawer to begin with.

It isn't. That's the whole business model for those rent to own places.

A guy that worked for me got a cheap Vizio TV and PS4 from one and I did the math and it was going to cost him $4200 over 2 years. fricking moron. If he would have just saved his money it was maybe $900 worth of stuff retail.

this exact scenario, when told to me in law school, is what crushed my liberal mindset

"consumer protection" = letting some people get off the hook for backing out of deals that don't turn out as well as they hoped

How is this even possible? I'm not sure if I should be surprised or not. I mean the price has to look outrageous to an 8 year old, let alone an adult with money.

Did you see the story about that group of people trying to get their student loans forgiven because they feel they didn't get their money's worth?

Is that phone worth $800, much less $2000?

I knew these places were ridic because nothing down and its yours. But it is usually TVs/furniture/dining room sets and what not. If you don't pay the $20 a week they repo fast!

How can they repo a POS phone?

They get their money back after the first couple of payments. After that, they can turn off the service and still be in the black.

No doubt but it's funny to me to see people that took tons of money turn around and ask to not have to pay it back.
