70% of businesses do not have flood insurance, La Ins. Comm Donelon estimates

“I’m willing to bet about one-fourth of those affected will be insured and three-fourths won’t,” he says. “Unfortunately, there is nothing they can do about it at this point.”

If those numbers hold true that is a massive wealth wipeout for the regional economy.

I heard on the radio today that in the flooded areas, it is estimated that of the houses that flooded, 75% do NOT have flood insurance.

I find that hard to belueve.

Not me. I'll say this. My folks have lived in Kenner since the early 70's. Always had flood insurance. One of the things my dad taught me. My uncle in lakeview didn't and he lived in his house longer. 12 foot in his house during Katrina. If you live in south Louisiana you would be silly not to have it.

They were showing pictures online of admiral Doyle and Lewis St in new Iberia being underwater and that's all businesses. They had businesses with gofundme pages up already. What a disaster.
