A seven-year-old was found dead in Winnsboro Monday night.

Sheriff Kevin Cobb confirmed the Franklin Parish Sheriff's Office received a call at approximately 11 p.m. reporting a missing child later identified as Brandon McFarland, 7.

The child's parents, Brandon and Britney McFarland of Baskin, and several neighbors searched the area looking for the child before contacting the sheriff's office.

After deputies arrived, they continued searching along with his parents, neighbors and volunteers. One of the neighbors found Brandon on their property next to the home his family was visiting in the 200 block of Lincoln Street in Winnsboro.

According to the sheriff's office, Brandon and his sister were playing ball outside in the yard, and the ball went over the property owner's 6-foot tall privacy fence.

Brandon went over the fence and came into contact with a hot wire on the other side. He was electrocuted.

An autopsy will be performed, and the investigation is ongoing

Like a hot electrical wire, or a "hot wire" for keeping animals in/out? I don't think the 2nd kind can electrocute you.

The "kill you where you stand" kind. I'm guessing it was a one story house with low eaves. The electrical service coming into that type of house wouldn't be terribly high off the ground because it has to clear the eave to anchor to the side of the house. If the service to the house crosses the fence line and the fence is close to the house, it's entirely plausible that a kid crossing a privacy fence could get high enough to contact the wire.

There aren't many things that scare the shite out of me, but electricity/hot wire is up there.

Shocking, even by OT standards, given the family's current situation.

Parents should ground their kids if they threaten to run away.
