360 evaluations: How often?

I just received a request to complete a 360 evaluation of a former colleague for the second year in a row. He is a Dean of Science. My management education and professional development left me with the impression this is a process you engage on an occasional basis, for example every 3 or 5 years, not in a routine yearly evaluation.

Any HR experts about?

I evaluate my 360 daily.

Normally it is not an annual thing. Perhaps someone has a "new toy" and wants to use it. The other possibility is that there is something amiss with the person being evaluated and the 360' eval is being used to identify weak areas to improve, progress on improving those areas (if being done annually), or someone is getting closed to be shitcanned.

last company I was with did it annually for everyone...current company does it every few years...
