What's sad is that I mostly remember this because gunman John Hinckley, Jr. supposedly asked, "how's LSU doing in the Final Four?"

LSU had already lost prior to the assassination attempt.
The championship game between UNC and Indiana was held that night.
However, back then there was a 3rd place game that LSU played UVA the same day as the shooting.

That ended up being the last 3rd place game played. They almost cancelled both games because of the shooting.
