21% of people say: Sexist for men to hold open a door for women in online poll

Is it considered sexist for a man to hold a door open for a woman?
Some lady yelled at me yesterday at Willis Tower for opening the door for her and letting her go before me. She screamed that she is more than capable of opening the door all by herself. I let the door close on her and walked in front of her instead. I can't believe 21% of people think this is sexist but then again maybe I'm a product of my generation.

The good looking ones tend to appreciate the gesture. The dogs? Not so much.

I actually experienced this for this first time back in Miami. It was a 2 door, each back to back, type lobby. I was holding the first door when the lady told me she could open a door for herself so I went out of my way to close the second door on her while she was opening it

Well I'm sure 21% of women are fat ugly bitches who hold grudges against men so it makes sense

I will continue to hold open doors. Gives me comfort to know that anyone that takes offense to it is probably hopelessly miserable at all times anyway.

I say it's sexist for most of these individuals, presuming that the majority are women, to assume that the only reason I am holding the door open is because there is a woman behind me.
I hold the door open for men and women. Young and old. Fat and thin. Rich and poor. All races. All ages. All shapes and sizes.
It's just an act of common courtesy like letting a car make a left turn from a business/parking lot when traffic is backed up.

I open doors for everybody.

What if you slam it in their face?

I guess I don't get the sexist part. I'll hold open doors, especially for older people or someone with a bunch of stuff in their arms. I just figure it's a general common courtesy.

No kidding. I mean, why waste your gallantry on an ugly broad?

Is that why none of them say thank you?

She wasn't an ugly woman which is what surprised me the most. She had to be a female attorney as she fit that mold quite well.

It's gay if you open doors for men (even gayer if you accept the open door), though.

That's just more motivation to always hold the door open...
Either the gesture is appreciated, or it pisses off some dumbass butt faced woman. Win-win.

That means the 79% of people think it is not racist.
Maybe if you ask her to prove it, then hold it closed while she tries to get in?
