If safety is a concern why not buy a sedan?

I'd wait 6 months and get the 2017 MDX. They've brought back dual exhaust, added option of captain chairs for 2nd row and gave the front and back a face lift.

They're about to do a major re-design of the XC-60 to match the other new Volvos. It's going to be a hellova lot nicer. If that matters to you.

I got a 2016 xc60 in december and absolutely love it. I think the exterior aesthetics are actually nicer(sportier) than the new xc90. The interior of the 90 blows away the 60, but then again the new 90 has been widely regarded as the best suv in any price range.

I think the XC60 is dated as hell. Might as well buy a used car if you're going to get it.

Based purely on aesthetics:

Volvo XC60

Then

Grand Cherokee

And then highlander or mdx. Neither are very exciting to look at, but I imagine they are both very competent vehicles.

I can't speak for the Volvo, but I've had both a Highlander and an MDX. While the Highlander is a very good vehicle, especially for the price, the MDX is a huge step up. Both are exceptionally reliable, but with Acura you're dealing with a Luxury vehicle. Go test drive them if you haven't already. The difference will amaze you.

The wife and I bought an XC60 in October, and my parents have a Highlander (both 2015). Safety was also one of our top priorities with our newborn, and we were torn between the 2. We absolutely love our Volvo, and my wife wouldn't trade it for anything; however, I must say that the Highlander does have 3 advantages over the Volvo. The ride is smoother (not a lot though), there is more leg room and cargo space (a significant amount), and the front cabin has more efficient use of space (places to put your phone, change, etc whereas the we're always trying to find a place to put stuff in the Volvo.

With that in mind, the Volvo does have more bells-and-whistles (BLIS, front and rear parking sensors, better navigation system, free Wi-fi/hotspot in the car, multi-phone bluetooth capabilities, better handling, better safety rating, and Volvo-on-Call).

This is the same color and wheel package xc60 that I have. Not sure how it looks dated. The only suv's in its class that I think look better are the macan and q5.

The interior is pretty good. Better than the gmc, Honda and Infiniti that I test drove. Not as nice as the Cadillac. The safety features are great.

When is the makeover?

After doing some more digging it might be next year. My bad.

I drove a new XC-90 back to back with a supercharged Range Rover and honestly preferred the Volvo. If they make the same advancements for the 60 it could be worth a wait. The 90 made my car feel ancient.

The highlander seats 7 and is considerably larger than the Volvo.

I would guess he's saying it looks dated bc it resembled the old XC90, and I believe they've been making the XC60 since the 09 year model.
