We just finished a flood renovation. They're moving back in tomorrow, the day they flooded a year ago to the day. Good stuff.

I'd like to give a shoutout to the poster, supernovasky. He was instrumental with his knowledge during the flooding.

Thurday, August 11:

8am
Mother woke me up at 8 am about getting sand bags, ( i thought it was normal woman B.S. at first), looked outside and water was highest i had every seen in the yard . so I realized i did not have time to get to central, la ( nearest F.D.) to get free sand bags before the bridge to our neighborhood flooded out so i sped around the corner to lowes on millerville and bought 100 bucks worth of sand bags, light rain going on but i remember being pissed off the assholes didn't help me load the 20 bags.

9 am .
i sped to return home before the bridge flooded out. water was about 1 foot deep by that time and my pathfinder stalled just as i was clearing the water. i let the engine rest for a few minutes while neighbors looked on at the rising flood. Engine restarted and i proceeded around the corner to my house.
House is 6 feet above street level ( flood zone so building up is required).

12 pm
Accesss Roads that lead out to oneal lane flooded completely so every one was trapped at their houses. still no water in the house. My family and i had begun to move valubales to the attic, stack furniture on old books, move important documents to the higher cabinets. etc, etc.

1 pm.
guys in the back of the neighborhood closer to the amite river started running their boats down what use to be streets which had turned into canals actually bringing people to the edge of the flood ( soon to be know as the cajun navy.)

2 pm
the national guard started running boats down what used to be our streets and asked/ urged us to be rescued. my family opted to stay and continue moving valuables to higher ground.

5 pm
my family finished doing what we could to flood proof the house ( we have never come remotely close to flooding) and went next door to my neighbor's 2 story house.

6pm - dusk.
we watched the water rise to inches beneath our door seal from their kitchen window before darkness made that impossible.

Darkness/ night/ sleep

Morning

6 inches of water in our house but it is had already started to drop.

Neighbor's sister who lives with them says water came within 2 inches of entering their house at 3 am ( their house is about 1 foot higher) before it started to recede. she said she was tired as shite from staying up watching the water all night and passed the frick out.

8 am
the next day my dad and i went back to our house and started pushing the remaining water with push brooms and popping up wood floors to prevent the molding process ( after taking pictures for the insurance company) and the 10 month demo/ remodel process began.

post script
that shite was fricking insane and i will never forget that day for the rest of my life.
