The first car I bought when I was 16 was a '92 325i. It had about 150k on it when I got it, so I learned how to fix it as it broke down all the fricking time. When it worked it was great. I'm lucky to be alive as I liked to go fast and that car allowed me to go fast. I wouldn't give a BMW or Audi or any other fast car to a teen as I know what they'll do with it.

My understanding is the 3 series will run forever, but maintenance costs will add up. Plus insurance will be high as shite for a teenager driving one. But I think I'd go with the BMW over the Audi in terms of reliability.

Either are good options in general, but as has been mentioned, they will cost a lot of money and your son will likely tear up whatever he gets, Honda Civic or Mercedes G Wagon. Doesn't matter. They'll all end up in the shop at some point.

I would get him a Lexus IS or GS. Can't go wrong with Toyota.

He's a a damn teenager. You shouldn't have to talk him into anything. You're the damn parent. Just give him the car you want him to have.

Some truth to this last part. Factoring in he's a male teenager, you might want to push for some rolling steel for safety reasons. Maybe a Tahoe or Suburban since you sound like money is not an issue. Something that will improve odds in a crash.

Tried to get him to go with Lexus 350ES as it is a great reliable car but all his buddies think it is chick car. He is good kid driven POS and wrecked it already but want to pass to his sister and that is the real issue.

Thanks for all the input
