I would have tried to jump out rather than burn to death, but that's just me.

I did a hot air balloon in Italian alps region. Went up to about 10,000 feet. Only 3 people in basket and that was crowded. You feel the heat from the flames, can't imagine the fear. I don't see how 16 could be done legally/safely no matter what size the basket. I kind of wondered why we didn't have an emergency parachute pack once up in the clouds, but I survived

How do 16 people fit in the basket of a hot air balloon?

If they hit the transmission lines, death might have been immediate.

How high up are these?

Any possible way to have an emergency parachute just in case you need to jump out? I guess a ride like this isn't high enough?

Doesn't seem too safe to do this with that many strangers as someone said.. One could go crazy

Terrible tragedy

They should pack parachutes. Even if a few get tangled, at least some survive

Being burned alive and falling to your death at the same time.

Mann I would probably pass out from the shock of it.

Glad you made it.

I seriously thought one of those balloons was going to clip the mast on the drill rig I was working with.

Not going to help when you hit high voltage lines at 100'

Kind of a hard choice to make.

Did they hit the power lines or was it an arc from the power lines that zapped them?

ETA: not the same crash apparently. The below is from Luxor, Egypt.

Video - did they not have a fire extinguisher on board?

Longer video of the above, Luxor, crash.

Not sure, but it could have killed them instantly either way

Is everyone harnessed in somehow on a hot air balloon ride? I assume so, but have no clue about these things.
