He said her body had been sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Crime Lab for an autopsy.
Det. Kristen Hearn said the Polk County Police Department is obtaining search warrants for Davis's phone, Facebook account and a third social media site after unconfirmed rumors were reported the incident was recorded by the phone on a live streaming website.
She said she will seek the warrants on Tuesday to be able to get into the phone and confirm if the rumors are true.
Hearn said the investigation remains open and further details would be forthcoming.
Davis was a Cedartown Middle School student according to Polk School District Superintendent Darrell Wetherington.

Man I have a 12 year old son. I can't imagine him doing something like this. The world sure is a hell of a lot different than when I was 12.

I've always assumed that people who attempt to commit suicide in a public space are not willing to go through with the action. They are merely providing a plea for help and assistance from anyone who will help to talk them down.
It just seems customary that most suicide incidents occur in privacy and away from the company of the others.
So why the frick would you take to the Internet to broadcast your suicide attempt and garner attention but then still carry it out? That doesn't seem to make much sense.

Because she's twelve years old dude, her brain isn't even fully developed, much less does she have good reasoning for putting s suicide online. It's fricking horrible that a 12 year old is even having to think about this much less act on it

I don't have kids but I don't think I'd be able to bounce back from a future child of mine, especially if I was to have a little girl, doing something like this.

It isn't really, though. I'm 35 and kids were committing suicide when I was a "tween" for lack of a better term. I don't want my son to ever have to know that world, but it's a reality, and it has been for a long long time.

Because she probably wanted one or more people to have to live with the guilt and horror. To always have that memory etched in their mind. It could be her way to "get back" at somebody as a final solution. Twisted for sure but humans can have some strange motivations.

Lot of preteen and teenage girls think about hurting themselves, especially over relationships. I even knew some preteen and teenage boys who had the same thoughts. They don't fully understand their actions and thoughts.
