Your dream draft night

For me we trade the Titans our #11, Cooks and a 4th for #5 and #18.
At #5 we take one of 3 players:
1. Solomon Thomas - Looks like a hell of a ball player, has a high motor and great size at 6'3" 273. He had fantastic workout numbers (4.69 40, 35" vert and 30 reps)
2. Leonard Fournette - Wanna extend Drew's career? To me we're the most lethal when we have a great running game. Also Leonard would give us a cornerstone to build around in the post Drew Era. Not to mention- would there be a better story than Leonard bringing New Orleans a championship?
3. Jon Allen - Eye test tells me he's the best football player in the draft. I don't think he's ever going to bean absolute monster and rack up 15 sacks but I bet he's a solid Dlineman in the league for 10 years.
At #18 we go with:
Rueben Foster - Would be an absolute steal at 18.
Tim Williams or Haason Reddick - IMO the best 2 pass rushers in the draft behind Garrett.
Any of the solid corners: Tre White, Marlon Humphrey, Quincy Wilson or Sydney Jones.
Then swinging around in the 2nd I would love to see them land either Ethan Pocic, one of the fringe solid corners or Jabrill Peppers.
Everyone has their own opinion but my absolute dream scenario
#5- Fournette
#18- Foster
#43- Tre White, Tim Williams or Jabrill Peppers
Downvote away.

I am so tired of people wanting to take LF7. We are in desperate need of a pass rusher, LB, and CB. I am a huge LSU fan and think the world of him, but it is just not what the Saints need at all. We get it, you're an LSU fan. Enough with Leonard...

No.
Also there's no reason at all for the Saints to draft LF7. If he wasn't an LSU player it wouldn't even cross people's minds.

Drafting LF7 is not what the Saints need. If your "dream" scenario were true:
Pick 5: any of these guys: Lattimore, Adams, Allen, Thomas, Barnett
Pick 18: (depending on what position was taken at 5) take BPA at any position of need: CB, pass rusher, DT, S, LB.
LF7 would be cool but there's no point in getting him when CSP's offence doesn't call for a big factor back like LF7.

IMO he will not be that great of an NFL player, I'd pass on him.

quote:Fournette could have went to UNO and I would still want him in a Saints uniform. IMO he's a difference maker and will be a 1500 yard rusher for 5+ seasons. I truly beilive he would elevate the saints from a 7 win team to a 10 win team. I understand there are larger needs but I believe in drafting the best player possible.

TheCards needed everything but a Corner when they took Patrick Peterson, worked out pretty good for them.
I understand if y'all don't agree with me, it was more of a discussion starting thread.

Geez.
You think a rookie RB, with Drew Brees throwing the ball around and limiting his carries, is going to make the Saints 3 wins better? Won't matter a bit because the defense still wouldn't be stopping anybody. Offense isn't the issue holding back the Saints.

Sadly, it's more of a case of bad fit versus team need. Your point about taking best available is sound. The truth is, if we got the 5th and wanted to/"had" to take a RB the smart decsion for the Saints would be to take Cook instead of LF7.
Cook simply fits the offense CSP runs better; as painful as it is to say.
Overall, taking defensive players with both picks is what's truly best for the team.

I know Mark Ingram isn't the most popular player on this board, but at some point people have to understand that the Saints have a RB already who just rushed for 1000 yards on 5.1 yards a carry last season and he's only making $4 million a year. RB (and skill positions offensively in general) is the last place the Saints should be looking early in the draft.

quote:Yeah that's incredibly terrible logic right? Rookie running backs never make a team better.

Our best team ever led the league in rushing. If you put Leonard on the 2016 saints they win at the Giants and Chiefs for sure.

Yep yep nailed that comparison, the Cowboys and the Saints were in the exact same position. Again, the Saints led the NFL in YPG offensively last year. They don't need offensive help, which is precisely why they're trading Cooks. If they improve the defense then they'll have a chance to compete. That's accepted logic by everybody except for you apparently.

Our best team also had more interceptions, forced fumbles, more pressure on quarterbacks, etc. Defense is what made us good that year. Not an excellent RB. If I remember correctly we did not have any super star running backs that year either. It was consistent defensive play that made us a good team. (And Drew)

Dallas has the best O-line in the world. Zeke's rookie year isn't as impressive as it looks due to how great their line is.
You look at his stats on paper and say "OMG, this dude is amazing!" Then watch the games and see holes big enough to drive an F-250 through and you're like "Ohh, okay well these numbers make more sense"

Zeke yards per carry in 2016: 5.07
Ingram yards per carry in 2016: 5.09

Y'all are right. Leonard wouldn't make the saints any better. He's pretty much the same as Mark Ingram. He won't be a difference maker at all. Thread bookmarked.

Trade Cooks/11/extra pick to TEN for 5/18
5. Adams
18. Taco
42. Mahomes
76. Moreau
Then just BPA at this point in the draft IDC, just get players you think can develop into ballers.

That list doesn't include the Broncos #1 D from SB 50's team or the Patriots top 5 D this past season. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 45 out of 51 of the SB winners have have a top 15 defense.
We need defensive help more than anything. Please. Stop. With. The. RB. Talk.
