We knew when the Saints gave Brees his contract three years ago, that the FO would have to be spot on with their FA's and extensions.
The problem is that they've failed miserably. The current roster contains few draft picks prior to this season's. And almost all of the larger contracts given by Loomis in the last few years have been huge mistakes. You mix that with the lack of development of players, especially on the defensive side, and you get the complete shite show that we currently have.
It's sobering to think of how much worse this team could be with a lesser talent at quarterback right now.

In 2016, his $2.75m base salary is also fully guaranteed. Cutting him this season saves us a little under $1m in 2016. He would count $5.3m against the cap (dead money).
It's either cut him or make him inactive for the rest of his contract because he's a giant negative on the field. Yes more money down the drain but that's where we're at.

There should be ways around this. Should be able to opt out of contracts due to poor play.

A lot of teams negotiate contracts with performance goals written in.

For the most part the local media is SUPER soft. Even Yellin's story on WWL's website is damn near apologizing for Browner.

Took frustrating loss out on reporter asking questions to another player. Berated guy with profanity and had to be escorted away by other players and staff. Nothing earth shattering.
