It is a bye week, the whole team is a disfuncational shite storm... other organizations have fired HC's already.... Maybe they hammer out a release of CSP?

I imagine that of the few things Tom CAN remember is the Championship that CSP brought him.
And I don't see him forgetting that any time soon.

Naw.

Old Tom loves Sean like a son.

Plus, he's the only person close to him that never sued him.

Mr. Benson owes CSP nothing. He's been a great owner to CSP and has stood by CSP through a LOT of shite CSP has apparently brought this team.

what's the difference between now and end of season if both parties agree its time to move on and part ways?

Payton is only moving on if he has a plan in place. And coaches don't get hired in the middle of a season

Saints pay him for remaining of this seasons salary.
CSP releases them of contract thereafter.

CSP definitely can bank on nice gigs being offered to him as a FA.

Plausible?

I don't think. That's a huge gamble from the Payton camp. Dude is owed $8mil next year. Not only does it not benefit him financially, he losses Some leverage if he is not under contract with the Saints. I think is value is higher under contract than it is as a free agent. The offer will have to be lucrative for him to forgo the $8 mil the saints would pay him next year

This.

Nobody is standing in line to give CSP $8M.

I'm not in favor of firing Payton. He's shown what he's capable of previously. I would can every other coach and coordinator on staff.

One aspect of Payton's current situation to keep mind of is the fact that he has so much pull within the organization. At this point there is no clear-cut owner, so it's being run by Lauscha and Co., with whom Payton holds a ton of sway. Assuming the likely event that Gayle gets ownership upon Tom's death, it is likely that the same decision making core would remain in place, with Gayle as a sort of figurehead owner. Payton would be able to basically run the team however he sees fit.

Depending on the opening offered to him, he could be dealing with a pushy or meddling owner, or a GM who likes to throw weight around, either of which would clash with Sean's ego.

Better Question is once Benson passes, or even before say when Brees retires, what is the chances Payton takes a "Parcells" role with the Saints as a GM type and maybe eventually runs this team from the management suite.
