For the most part when free agency threads pop up on here, the top guys are brought up. While I wouldn't mind seeing Justin Houston and Mike Iupati in black and gold, I don't think we should take the Byrd route again. Here are several guys that are solid players that could come at relatively inexpensive rates:

1. Stefen Wisniewski, C, Oakland
2. Shane Vereen, RB, New England
3. Bruce Carter, ILB, Dallas
4. Pernell McPhee, OLB, Baltimore
5. Dan Williams, NT, Arizona
6. Ray McDonald, DE/DT, San Francisco
7. Andre Holmes, WR, Oakland
8. Perrish Cox, CB, San Francisco

If we could sign Justin Houston, you wouldn't want him?

i love this. the guy played what 3-4 games and people have nominated him as the next waste of money guy the Saints have? LOL

He wasn't very effective while he played granted, but give him another year or two and let him play more than 3 games before we start tagging him as a bust.

I really hope the 49ers re-sign Perrish Cox over Chris Culliver at CB.

With the way Bruce Carter has played this year, he is going to want a sizable contract.

1,2,3,5,6 and 8 are not "low-key" guys.

Not sure you know what a low-key free agent is. Love to get Wisniewski, but not sure we can swing it.

I always like taking others teams talent. Sean Witherspoon (unlikely). Jake Matthews & Bobby Rainey? Those would be good signings IMO.

Vereen has been my number two wanted free agent after iupati. Those two moves alone can transform this offense

I'm not saying Byrd was a bust, but we put all of our free agent eggs in one basket.

My idea for "low-key" is a player outside of the top 3-5 for their position in this free agent class. I hardly think some other team's trash is going to put us over the edge, so not that kind of "low-key," nor am I saying that we should/could sign all of them.

He might explode in our offense.

I'd say it was 2 baskets since we also signed Champ Bailey to be our #2/#3.

Also, I'd do it for an elite NT, ILB, or WR. We need an interior push and a guy to eat up blockers if we want Junior to go to the next level and Cam to become great again.

There are some potential cuts that I wouldn't mind signing if the price was right, like Reggie Bush.

Injury history is extensive, but for me, Ryan Mathews. Due to injury concerns should come pretty cheap. This is really only if we lose Ingram.

Not sure the confidence level for this happening is very high around here.

As I posted before of the 74 guys on the roster only 18 are thoses we drafted.

How many undrafted rookie free agents? How does that compare to other teams?

I know Junior and PT are at least 2 of them. We've had pretty damn good success drafting offensive lineman under Payton.

We should just ignore defense in the draft all together unless we're finally going to take an ILB in the 1st
