What's the fascination with so many saints fans and bobby hebert?

Why do so many people in South Louisiana think Bobby Hebert is one of the greatest guys ever to play for the saints?

We saw a modicum of success with him under center.

That's about it.

I'm not sure people who are coherent when it comes to football actualy idolize Bobby. He is more of a good personality for the team and one of the better QB's to play for the Saints who is good for the community.

Is it really that hard to understand? He is from south Louisiana and was quarterback of the first Saints team to have a winning record, and play in a playoff game. The fact that he's turned into a drunken motor mouthed radio personality is just a bonus.

No one is touting Gleason's talent on the field. He is a huge deal because his blocked punt is iconic considering everything that happened with Katrina.

The Dome Patrol Saints were special. Hebert may not be the most revered player from that era, but combine his connection to that with his local flavor and you have an appealing media personality. On top of that he's a drunk that talks funny. That may not describe you, but that describes quite a few Saints fans, or maybe the uncle they watched games with as a kid. Some of the things that probably make you question his popularity are what makes him popular.

It's not all about the difficulty of the play, but the moment and what the play stood for

re: What's the fascination with so many saints fans and bobby hebert?
I actually remember the Bobby Hebert that blew the game to the Eagles in 1993, then left the field by flipping the bird to the fans...

quote:

The Eagles overcame a 20-7 Saints lead late in the third quarter by scoring 26 points in the final period. New Orleans scored first on running back Craig Heyward's 1-yard touchdown run, but it was countered with Philadelphia quarterback Randall Cunningham's 57-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Fred Barnett. The Saints then went ahead 17-7 before halftime with kicker Morten Andersen's 35-yard field goal and wide receiver Quinn Early's 7-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Bobby Hebert. The two teams exchanged field goals in the third quarter, and the score was 20-10, New Orleans, going into the final period. With less than 11 minutes left in the game, Cunningham connected with wide receiver Fred Barnett for a 35-yard touchdown completion. Then on the first play of the Saints' next possession, Eagles linebacker Seth Joyner intercepted a pass to set up running back Heath Sherman's 6-yard touchdown, giving Philadelphia the lead, 24-20. After New Orleans got the ball back, Eagles defensive lineman Reggie White sacked Hebert in the end zone for a safety. Philadelphia kicker Roger Ruzek then added a 39-yard field goal, and 19 seconds later, defensive back Eric Allen intercepted Hebert and returned it 18 yards for a touchdown.

He then left and went to play for the Falcons...

I'm not a big fan, and really don't see the appeal.

Haven't been a fan long, huh? Or maybe you're just heartless, i don't know. Someone had to pick up Jeff Duncan's slack.

To be fair, the Saints had a wining record with Bobby under center and the Falcons had a losing record with Bobby under center. So it could be argued that he made us better and then made our rivals worse.

Does anyone think this?

Here I was thinking people were interested in the two figures because of obvious reasons.

Ones a drunk in the media with a fans's mentality and alot of people connect with that. He also played for the saints.

The other has a terrible disease and has everyone's undying sympathy right now because hes a former football player that people watched. It's kinda phony to me because probably 99% of people with lou gehrig's disease are not getting anywhere near the same treatment or recognition. It's kind of like when everyone had 5 flags hanging out their car after 9/11. People just need that certain something that makes them feel like a compassionate human being I guess.

I've never heard anyone state either was "the greatest" pr anything like that. Bobby Hebert was basically alex smith and gleason was a special teamer. Dont be ridiculous.
