What were we using Cooks for?

Go routes, clearouts.
Ginn is faster, he can do the same fricking thing
We gained a 1st round pick and Ginn will be cheaper than Cooks would have been after next season.
Back off the ledge folks, this was a good move.

But Ginn can't catch. That's important if you're a wide receiver

Your drinking some gin and juice if you think that Ginn at 30 is faster than Cooks at 23.
But i agree, I dont think that this move hurts the offense very much.
Hoping we can assemble an average defense.

Cooks also started gator arming this past year as well.
the dropped passes isnt THAT big of a deal, but still a huge difference.
Cooks: 78 receptions, 3 dropped passes
Ginn: 54 receptions, 5 dropped passes

We are fooling ourselves if we think there won't be any drop off in the offense.
There will be. Just hope there's a few more defensive FA's we can snag, and draft well enough to see the defense improve

Ginn is equal to Robert meachem. Cooks is much better

For the first picks in the second and fourth round according to some posters

Ginn is not as good as Cooks. Let's not even try to argue that.
Cooks had 16% of the teams receptions (2nd on the team), 22% of the yards (1st on the team) and 21% of the receiving touchdowns (2nd on the team). I think we have to hope that Ginn can fill about 10-12% of the receptions and yards and hope that Fleener can improve his crappy arse performance by 5-6% to make up the difference.

Devery couldn't catch a cold and then Curtis Johnson happened to him. Ginn will be fine in this offense.

Ginn is not as good as Coks IMO but he gives you enough downfield and maybe more in blocking and short route running and tackle breaking ability than Cooks that I'm not worried about the drop off

18th best Free Agent WR
ed Ginn, WR/KR, Panthers. Age: 32.
signed with Saints
Ted Ginn eclipsed the 50-catch barrier for the Panthers this past season and still served as a dangerous kick returner. However, Ginn turns 32 in April, so he doesn't have much time remaining in the NFL.

It's pretty close I'd say

If we weren't gonna pay him this is fine.
I don't think we were gonna pay him.
More players on good rookie deals is what we need. I don't think we'll be crying over missing any 1 WR.

Ginn can return punts and kickoffs which the Saints desperately needed!

The more it sinks in the more I like. The addition for the return game is huge beyond the receiver comparisons.
As far as comparison I'd try this- Cooks is approaching elite DeSean Jackson similarity. Ginn isn't there for his hands not as good primarily. He is though stratospherically better than say Joe Morgan as just a speed-clear out kinda guy. As a receiver he does remind me of Devery in his higher dropsy years.

I honestly don't think the offense will see a drop off, especially with a much needed upgrade at guard

Cooks had 80 catches and 1100 yards last year. He was more than a deep threat when they allowed him to be more.
But Payton's offense has always had specialized roles for receivers and he was starting to be the deep ball guy like devery Henderson.
He's better off in New England where he'll be used in space more tbh. He's gonna blow up over there.

I think this is just a result of Thomas coming in and being better at playing the short game. Much more physical. This shifted Cooks to being a deep ball guy just because it was the best thing he offered that no one else could do.

I think they'll carve out a good role for him, but there is a lot of mouths to feed there. If Cooks really had a problem with not being the primary target here, he is going to have it even worse over there.

He'll be wes welker there. he's going to do really well, their offense fits his abilities very very well.

So you think he will get 120+ catches?
