At the game and we saw the flag be thrown as soon as the ball was snapped and we all thought it was offsides or something. It was called on 42. What was that all about? Thanks

Apparently he tried to make someone jump on the oline. That is automatic delay. Per twitter.

According to my friend who read this on twitter or something:

"If the defense performs an uncommon action to try & draw the offensive offsides it is a delay of game on D" [sic].

I don't know what an uncommon action is.
Sounds like a chicken shite call to me.

I have watched football for 20 years and I can never ever recall a delay of game penalty called on the defense occuring at the beginning of the play and not actually causing the play clock to expire.

Only example I can think of is a defensive player not letting a player up after tackling them or moving (kicking or throwing) the ball after the play ends.

Noone knew what it was. Mike Pierria (sp?), former head of officials who now works for a network tweeted it to Mike Tripplet.

Even the commentators had no idea.

However, the holding call on Devery that negated the Sproles TD was way more chicken shite.

Like I said before, are we going to get an apology from the referees or NFL?

It's a conspiracy. It's all because Drew held those practices!

It doesn't make sense to me.

Shouldn't it be the responsibility of the offense to know when the ball is snapped?
If the defense can make you go offsides, then there's a communication issue.

Isn't that a unsportsmanlike conduct penalty?

Prob tried to simulate the snap of the with some sort of a motion to draw the other guy offsides. That is against the rules and is classified as a "delay of game" penalty. Sean Payton discussed this himself and had no issues with the ruling or existence of this rule.

If that, the bs PI call on the goal line, and horrible call on Devery would have cost us the game, people would be caring more.

I've watched plenty of football and have never seen that call. Swung momentum and kept us from giving the knock out punch.

The amount of ticky-tack flags in that game took some of the enjoyment out of it. I kinda chalk it up to the team playing from behind in the NFL tends to get the calls. Seems to happen a lot and may be a subtle NFL strategy to keep games closer.
