re: What do you do in a draft scenario like this?

The only player I truly DO NOT want us to draft at 15 is Mingo. I just think at best he's a project, no technique and lightweight, but we have needs where draftees could contribute immediately. We have a real shot to compete for a title this year if we add a true difference maker. Mingo just won't be that in 2013 IMO.
There are too many guys that fit our needs that have great potential available to take a risk on a guy that may never develop.

2. Shariff Floyd
3. Eric Fisher
4. Lane Johnson
5. Sheldon Richardson
6. Star Latoulelei
7. Jarvis Jones
8. Dion Jordan
9. Desmond Trufant
10.Dee Milliner
11. Ezekial Ansah
12. Tavon Austin
13. Jonathan Cooper
14. Chance Warmack
Those are the guys that I really want (Cooper and Warmack are just low bc G isn't really a need while all of those other positions are, but they likely won't be there anyway).
Of course we pick 15, so we need at least one of them to fall.
Even if all of those 14 are gone, I still would take Rhodes, Ogeltree, Weorner, Patterson, or Hankins before Mingo.
Would really love moving back to 21 or so and picking up a 2nd rounder and taking whoever is left out of those guys I mentioned.
That would be ideal IMO.

Hating on Mingo on st seems to be the cool thing right now
If he's there at 15 and jones and Jordan are gone I take him in a second. I think he's gonna be a stud. Tbh I think he was out of place as a 4-3 de at LSU. Put him at 3-4 olb and he thrives

I'm definitely not doing this cause it's the in thing.
I've felt this way since he was at LSU. I just don't see any technique and I definitely don't see any strength. He's 100% speed. I tend to think he'll struggle to adjust to the NFL level.
And I've said all along he was a sure fire top 10 pick. It's obvious someone is going to fall in love with his speed. He was always going to blow up the combine and pro day.
I just really think his impact this year will be limited to a couple of game where he'll dominate some RT and get like 3 or 4 sacks. So he'll end up with a respectable 8 sacks or so but he will just disappear in like 12 games.
That's just my honest opinion.
I think we need a player that can impact every game and not just on 3rd and long.

Mingo's success will 100% be determined by how hard he works and how much he wants it.

Watching him play though, that speed is impressive coming off the edge.
I think he can add size/strength easy enough. He got bigger and stronger while at LSU but just not as big or strong as you'd like. If he can fill out that frame a little more without losing speed he could be elite.
I've just seen teams pass on a lot of prospects b/c they are "raw" and regret it. The opposite is also true though. That's why the draft is such a crapshoot. We'll all be proven right/wrong in a few years.

to be clear, I was predicting not advocating
I wouldn't be disappointed though. NT would be anchored in the new 3-4 for a decade. His upside potential is near Haloti Ngata (who went #12).

Yeah, I know. I wouldn't mind star at all. It just seems that trading up has never really been worth it for us. History seems to repeat itself.
Williams - good back but not worth 48 draft picks

Ingram - getting better but still I'd like to have had a first rounder last year. He certainly wasn't worth a first and second rounder.
Even later in drafts has been mixed results. Everyone is like WTF when we trade up to get a punter and he's been the best move made. Al woods and Antonio Pittman didnt even make the team!
Also, didnt we trade back in to the seventh round to draft Arrington?

In that situation it would all revolve around Tavon Austin. If you can get the Vikings to trade up for him, great. If not, you take him.

I understand that sentiment but whether to the upside or downside ya gotta use the investment axiom that past performance is not indicative of future results. You do whatcha think is best for the team. Saying we won't get good results from trading up is akin to saying we won't draft player X cuz we haven't good results from players at that college.
