What do y'all think of Sheldon Rankins going into this upcoming season?

He missed the first half of the season last year and finished the year with a handful of sacks. What do y'all project for him in 2017? He'll have a full year of NFL life under his belt and should hit the ground running going into the season.
I think doubling his production from last year is very possible but I also think he could lose some snaps to Onyemata again, depending on how O progresses.

He's got a lot to prove. Was probably difficult trying to play immediately after the broken leg injury so big expectations coming into this year.

I read somewhere the saints were like 19th in qb pressures the first half of the season and around 8th the second half. Coinciding with when Rankins came back

If he equals or slightly exceeds what Fairly did last season then QBs are in trouble. That is what I'm expecting out of him.

Not trying to dispute that Rankins had a considerable impact in pass rushing, but did Ellerbe come back around this time as well? Towards the back end of the season he was pass rushing pretty well.

Perhaps? Ellerbe is awesome when healthy

Yeah I think the return of those two guys combined helped to bump up the pass rush production.
It's been my opinion since I first looked at Rankins that he had great potential at pass rushing in a one gap scheme. His physical limitations are always going to haunt him but with proper technique and some savvy he can be very good in the NFL. I noticed last year that he overpowered a lot of guards and tackles with his bull rush and that really impressed me. He's the kind of guy that will win or lose with hand fighting in my opinion. If Rankins can get his hands inside he can more than likely control the offensive lineman. If the offensive lineman gets his hands inside on Rankins, he'll have a very hard time with shedding/disengaging.
I noticed that he's developed a really nice one armed bull rush that will really help him maximize his potential. By staying low, gaining leverage, and minimizing the target offensive linemen have to grab onto, he can really open up an arsenal of pass rush moves with the one armed rush.
Overall, I expect him to have a big year in terms of rushing. I don't know how much he can improve in the run game, but there's always an opportunity to get better with technique. The better he gets at hand fighting the better he'll get in every phase of DL play. I'm pretty excited about him going into this season.

I'm really excited about the interior Line
Rankins
Fairley
Davison
Onyemata and Zimmer are young and have lots of upside plus maybe a guy like Charles walker

I think he gets 7-8 sacks. I'll be interested to see how he improves against the run. That's an area he needs to get better at. I believe he will, though. He hasn't even had a full season yet.

I think that this is what the other teams should expect from Mr. Rankins.

run improvement and 8 sacks sounds pretty reasonable
8 + 6 for Fairley + a couple from Onyourmamma = 16 total
pretty good for the middle
add Jordan 8-10 = 25 total
6 from the LBs last year, possibly more but +6 = 31 total
2 DB sacks, possibly more but +2 = 33 total
That leaves the other end spot. Last year only 3. THIS will be critical. Between Kikaha, Okafor, and Hendrickson totaling 7 seems very reasonable.
That gets ya to 40 total. Last year's 30 ranks you 27th. 40 would have gotten you to 7th! Of course we know it is total pressure and not just sacks that count. Still, sacks are generally representative of how effective a team's pass rush is.

Our division doesn't lend itself well to high sack totals. Cam and Jamies are slippery af and Ryan doesn't pat the football.
