We must accept it, Brees' contract is the true downfall of this team.

Dude wanted his big pay day and he got exactly what he wanted, but it all happened at the expense of the entire team. You guys can try and deny it all you want, but in the end it is very true. Without throwing any other QB names out there, why not follow some other greats and take a cut to help get some better talent in to win some games?!

Stop posting

Drew's contract didn't draft a bunch of shitty players and make a plethora of other terrible signings.

Is he worth 20 million a year? Yes.
Is he worth 27 million right now?

Guess that's just one of the repercussions of backloading contracts.

No because we had several shitty drafts in a row and made bad moves in free agency and gave dumbasses like Galette big pay days.

I can't wait until we lose more games and all the post 2009 bandwagon fans get off the wagon. These posts are getting ridiculous.

They locked him up early and repeatedly gave him career security.

Not to mention it isn't Drew's dead money dragging the team down, not to mention the Byrd man

Gotta be trolling

It's a problem for sure. But this teams downfall is not drafting well and both lines are not good enough

For reference, the following make more money than Brees:
Aaron Rodgers (3-0 Record, #2 seed in playoffs last year)
Russell Wilson (1-2 record, made super bowl last year)
Roethlisberger (2-1 record, #3 seed in playoff last year)
Eli Manning (bad team last year, but got paid after that)
Phillip Rivers (1-2, marginal team last year)
Cam Newton (3-0 record, #4 seed in playoffs last year)
Matt Ryan (3-0 record, marginal team last year)
Joe Flacco (if we are not including guaranteed money)

So he is the 8th or 9th highest paid qb in the league. Do you see any of the above teams succeeding with highly paid QBs?

Ok, Lets go back and not pay Drew Brees. Give me a scenario where we dont look like dog shite from that point on. Its easy to say dont pay Drew Brees, but what do you do that has a realistic chance of getting us to the playoffs like we had been until these last couple of years?

You could not be more wrong. Brees' contract was one of the few correct decisions this front office has made. The downfall is due to poor personnel decisions, mainly not focusing on building a quality defensive line and not maintaining the offensive line. We are getting beat on the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Pass rush is non existent and the run game is dead in the water because of this. The proof is in the pudding.

We had elite QB play on a cheap QB contract for the first 6 years. He wanted to cash out and he deserved it. Deal with it.

Dude, he is in the fourth year of his current contract. What is Drew supposed to do? Give his money back that he already earned? Keep in mind Drew was WAAAY underpaid for years while he was breaking passing records and he actually delivered us a SB victpry on his original $60 mil contract so why dont you shut your piehole.

So, you are saying we shouldn't have resigned Brees?

I actually did the numbers recently and I counted up all of our draft picks since 2009 and how many of them actually hit.

We have made 31 selections from the 2009 draft to the cooks draft. I didn't include the Peat Draft because it's hard to know this early who will be a hit and who won't. Roughly 4 of them were good picks. Maybe five if you're feeling generous. That's why we are in the shape we are in. We barely average a player per draft who is decent.

Maybe if the FO focused on picking sure things early in drafts rather than trying to look like the smartest guys in the room all the time, we would have a bit more talent than we do.
