Video of Ingram's snaps this preseason.

Not a highlight video. He has seemed to improved.

Think we can get Aldon Smith for him in a trade?

Wow, I hadn't seen the Miami game yet. He looked really good there.

Except for the leaving-his-feet extra-effort fumble.

re: Video of Ingram's snaps this preseason.
After watching that, I can firmly attest to the negatives of his running. He does not get his weight transferred to the ground when he runs. He does not plant his cuts, but stays on his toes and never utilizes his weight to power. That's why he is stopped so easily when contacted. Once he gets hit, he then lays his weight to the run but that transfer lends itself to imbalance and falling down or easy tackles.

Think of running through hot coals, broken glass, or gravel. You tend to "pick your weight up" as to avoid the weight or pressure on your feet to minimize pain. How easy are you to be pushed to the ground as compared to running with your body weight transferred to full power through your legs?

This is mark Ingram's problem. Look at runners like Thomas, ivory, Robinson, Lynch. Ingram will never be the runner he tries to emulate unless he quits feather footing his runs.

He's honestly shifting better than I recall as I watch this.

His eyes aren't great, but he is seeing holes.

Man, I thought he broke zero tackles, but he actually got away from a good deal.
Much easier to see when you're not watching First Row.

Also, that screen was nice.
That's what we need to do more.
One of the biggest offensive coaching errors last season was our predictability with Ingram.

predictability with Ingram.

Has really been his downfall IMO. Coaches only put him in in short yardage situations or obvious run situations. I don't know why we all of a sudden thought he was a "short yardage" guy considering he's never really been that. He can lay the wood, but he's way more finesse than power.

I checked the stats at the end of the video as well.
They're correct.

2011 preseason: 2.9 ypc
2012 preseason: 3.1 ypc
2013 preseason: 4.6 ypc

I'm hoping that all this stuff together means that he'll play better.
That having been said, I doubt he'll ever meet our expectations.

I hope they forcefeed him; it's the only way he'll be what we want him to be.

that 20-something yard screen he had in game 3 showed that he can be used in multiple ways. gotta get him in there and mix it up for him to succeed imo.

25 carries for 115 yards and 4.6 ypc is damn fine.

And in his two prior seasons, he got a higher ypc in the regular season than the preseason.

I really think if he stays healthy he could rush for at least 800 this year.

Sorry Chad

he does seem to improve.

He's getting nearly 4 YPC in just about all of those runs, at the least.

What's weird is his vision was his strength at Bama. I know the holes were pretty big, but he always had good vision, which is why he had so many YAC. He wasn't powering through people, he was shaking and finding holes. Just one of the things that doesn't translate well to the NFL.

He'll never be elite, or great, but he can be a good consistent 4.2 YPC guy if he stays healthy. I don't know if he'll be a Saint for many more years, but he's a good guy who brings passion to the game, hate his play, but we can't hate the man.
