Vic Beasley: heart of a dirty bird
Posted by blueslover on 3/6/15 at 6:37 am13
He's a top edge rusher no doubt. They're sposed to be professionals n all but I gotta put an asterisk next to him. Not a no-take but as factor to consider. He grew up 60 miles outside of Atlanta. He was quoted saying that playing for them "would be a dream come true."

My edge rusher board is-
Fowler
Ray
Beasley
Gregory
Dupree
Fowler is the clear cut first gone IMO, so no chance at 13. Ray missed the Combine. Watch his Pro Day March 19. He's my favorite/hope so far. He has an array of pass rushing techniques- not just straight line athleticism. Two other things that I would like to see injected into the D he has- non-stop motor and attitude. He's a baller.
Some on him here. You'll be hearing a lot more after his Pro Day-
Shane Ray story

You do realize college athletes say things like this quite often? I would be pleased with Beasley. No if's, and's or asterisk's about it.

asterisk in the sense if it came down to Beasley and another of the top rushers... it could be a factor. Yup, the "love to play for" is common but sometimes it is stronger than others. Somehow Beasley strikes me that way. I'm sure Keenan Lewis would have played hard for Atlanta. I don't think he would have given them any discount though. The Saints were his "dream come true". That is definitely a factor to put in the whole equation.

No it isn't. You don't factor that into picking a player because he already has a favorite team. That's stupid.

Hopefully he's there at #8.

CLEMSON, S.C. -- Former Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd is obviously a little biased when talking about his former teammates, but he sounded convincing when he made a bold claim about draft-bound pass-rusher Vic Beasley.
"There's nobody that matches him in the country," Boyd said Thursday during Clemson's pro day. "I think that he's an instant-impact player in the NFL. People talk about [Florida's] Dante Fowler and how he could be the No. 1 defensive player taken. But I think it would be a mistake not to take Vic first.
"Somebody asked me who you could compare him to. You can't do it with J.J. Watt because J.J. Watt is not as explosive as Vic, and J.J. Watt is the best defensive player in the league."
When told about Boyd's high praise and favorable comparison to Watt, Beasley snickered for a moment.
"I don't know," he eventually said. "I guess we'll see at the next level."
The 6-foot-3-inch Beasley, who weighed in at 246 pounds on Thursday, earned the league's attention with his jaw-dropping performance at the NFL combine in Indianapolis, where he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.53 seconds, completed 35 reps of 225 pounds in the bench press and posted a 41-inch vertical leap.
I think I don't give a frick what he likes and don't like
He could have a Falcon tattooed on his face for all I care. He's gonna be a badass.......
Anyway we are not going pass-rusher in the first anyway so it don't matter.

I've read that some scouts think he will be a bust due to his size. I say I don't care about shite like that; production is what matters. I personally am more liking Dupree, because I think he will be a do it all type player; however, Ray is a great option as well.

I envision long long years of Saints guard Brandon Scherff destroying Beasley on the reg

I'm fine with this too, but I actually think I prefer Collins (yes it says a lot when I actually want us to pick an LSU player).
I would be good with any of the players at any of the following positions: OLB, MLB, G, CB. If Waynes isn't there, then I surely hope they don't reach for the other Collins if so.

More than likely Collins, Scherff should be gone already.
Its just going to continue to be like this every year. "PASS RUSHER!!!!!" Every year before the draft. Don't get me wrong I would love for them to draft a guy like Beasley or Ray but its just not gonna happen no matter how much people on here every year yell "Jarvis Jones!!!"

Only difference between Collins and Scherff is that I think Scherff can come in and be a pro bowler his first year and he's a bit better at pass blocking.
Collins has a higher ceiling, but I think he will struggle some his first year. However, he's alot better at run blocking

Either one is fine with me. Would be happy with either in the first. It would be kinda nice to get Collins and appease all of the "Draft him hes a Tiger, We never draft LSU players" people so they will shut the hell up though.

Fowler and Gregory will most likely be gone. If Beasleys there you have to take him in a heart beat just because of his pure athleticism. The only thing that scares me is if Shane Ray has the ability to be an OLB that can drop back in the pass.
This draft is super deep at the LB position so I wouldnt mind trading back to pick up a stud like Benardrick McKinney in the late first round or early second round. This guy has serious potential to be a star in the NFL.

Having a vote of confidence from Tahj Boyd isn't saying much and saying he's not comparable to Watt because he's better than him is ballsy.
Grest combine but it screams work out warrior and not elite NFL prospect. He could easily be a bust.
