LINK

Judging by this and some other comments in player interviews I'd say this staff really values Vaccaro and I think he will be here for the long term as a constant and a vet in the back end

He's Payton's man crush. How people do not realize this still baffles me. He's a pure football player through and through. Cares about the team, loves ball, a leader the lockeroom. Will voice his opinion if someone is not putting out ??. He's not going anywhere. Not even in the conversation of leaving the Saints.

Yes , I believe Vaccaro isn't going anywhere and he has value but the article is essentially about Okafor
and his potential and friendship with Vaccaro. Did I miss something because I don't get the link between the article and Vaccaro's future here.

Okafor talked about how Vaccaro stuck his name out there for him with the admin

Gotcha.
I definitely believe he is here for the long haul.
Always liked his aggressive approach to the game.

I don't have a problem with keeping him around but not at top 10 S money. If was getting slotted 15-25 I think that would be fair. He's really not that great, IMO. I would say he's above-average at times and other times he's an average player. Last year was probably his best year so hopefully he stays on that path. I think if we see good progression from young S this year we should seriously think about letting him go if he wants too much. Big deals seems to bite us in the arse lately especially and I'm against giving big ones against players who are not consistently great.

If he has another year like last year it's probably going to be difficult for them to let him go.

I don't know why anyone would dislike him. He has deep zone coverage limitations and thats really about it. He's an excellent box safety and cover RBs/TEs and even slot WRs.

100%

Like we need to get younger in the back end.

CSP knows you need leaders and V is one of them.

quote:

“It’s great. People don’t understand the magnitude” of being able to play with a close college friend as a pro, Vaccaro said. “It just makes you want to smile. Just to line up next to your friend during the National Anthem in the Nation Football League — that does not happen, ever, really. The percentage to be in the NFL is already low. To play with your best friends, or people you played with your whole life, is probably zero, basically.”

It amazes me how people think just cause Williams is a safety that he's here to compete with vaccaro.

Exactly. Vaccaro brings a lot to the table. No he isn't a great coverage safety but his aggressive approach on the field and leadership has won him high marks from the staff. His positives outweigh his negatives... so far.

He is a great man coverage safety. Zone is where he gets lost (the deeper with more field to cover the worse he gets).

But he can 100% man up on backs, TEs, and cover the slot.

we will be in a lot of single high safety looks with a Vaccaro in the box

Pretty much. He can handle RB's, TE's, & some WR's in the slot with ease. I've seen him have trouble with quicker & faster slot WR's at times. Besides that one nitpick, he's a perfect in the box safety.

Our defense is noticeably worse when he's not in the game. He stops the run like a LB, & mans the slot very good...also allows us to have 2 other safeties in the game to defend against the pass.

Our best defense is a 4-2-5 with Vaccaro playing in the box imo.

It amazes me that so many people let other people's opinions amaze them.

I have no problem at all with Vacarro. I think he performs the way we expected him to coming out of college. Great in-the-box safety. This is a huge year for him, IMO. Both for his future with the Saints and future contract terms for wherever else he may go. If he has a good-great year there's no doubt he'll remain a Saint. If he regresses and gets lost in the defense at times I could easily see us not ponying up what he wants money wise and letting him test FA. He'll be one of the bigger underlying storylines all season for me. Hope he shines and is able to sign up for the long-term!
