STILLWATER — The all-time scoring leader in Oklahoma State football history will have an opportunity to make an NFL roster.

Former Cowboy kicker Ben Grogan, who tallied 433 points as a four-year starter in Stillwater, has received an invitation to New Orleans Saints rookie minicamp, Grogan confirmed to The Oklahoman.

The Arlington, Texas, native earned second-team All-Big 12 honors last fall as a senior. Grogan recorded two game-winning kicks as a junior in 2015 (at Texas and vs. Kansas State) and another in 2014 (at Oklahoma). He finished his career with the second-most field goals made, 68, in program history.

Grogan underwent multiple hip surgeries during his time at OSU and was relieved of kickoff duties in 2016 by walk-on Matt Ammnedola. Grogan's best shot at earning an NFL roster spot will be as a field goal specialist. The Saints return Wil Lutz at the position, a now second-year placekicker and former undrafted free agent from Georgia State. Lutz connected on 28-of-37 field goal attempts last season, a mark that ranked No. 21 out of 32 teams.

Can he kick the ball over a 9 foot wall. If so, sign him.

Why in the heck would we bring a kicker with these issues for a tryout when there are probably dozens of others available?

He made 74% of his FGs in his career and missed 5 XPs in his career. He made one (1) FG over 35 yards all of last season! His career long is 47 and attempted only 1 FG over 50 yards in his career. We had to search for someone with those qualifications. I would bet Lutz is not too worried.
