Titans selected Lewan with pick No. 11 last year even though they had entrenched starters Roos and Oher going into the draft.

Didn't Roos get injured during the year?

Anyways, what did y'all think about their pick when they selected Lewan?

I personally was confused. Brings an outsiders point of view to our situation.

...Wait, the Titans are that super successful organization headed up by Bill Belichick that every other team wants to emulate, right?.... RIGHT!!??

Are you trying to reference the team who in 2011 took LT Nate Solder in the 1st even though they had a probowl LT in Matt Light already on the roster?

Matt Light who hasn't played in the NFL since 2011? How is that relevant? One of our Tackles retiring?

OP said Titans drafted an OT when there was not a need last year. You derided the comment saying the Titans are not the Pats, but the Pats did the same thing in the 2011 draft. The Pats did not know Light would retire a season later when they drafted Solder. Solder was simply the best player on the pats board and a 30 something tackle was not going to prevent them from taking their highest rated player even if he had just been to the probowl.

You honestly don't see how the comment is relevant when we drafted a tackle which was not an immediate need since we have a good 30 something tackle on the roster?

I look at it as a great pick for not only now but in the future as well. We run a good bit of Tackle eligible sets and bring in that extra beef which the Peat pick will help us with. Also we have dealt with injuries to both Strief and Armstead the last 2 years and had a backup come in and get abused not allowing us to keep the offense going the way we like to run it. Peat is 21 and if he pans out could anchor our line for a very long time which is a nice commodity to have. It's not the sexiest pick but it help

The way I look at it is this. With Peat, we now no longer have to play Bryce Harris should an injury occur. For that, I am 150% fine with the pick.

Honestly, no and here's why:

quote:

The Pats did not know Light would retire a season later when they drafted Solder.
We don't know what the Pats knew.

And most people have a problem with the Peat pick primarily because this is a 7-win team riddled with glaring holes and a Hall of Fame QB who's got 2-3 good years left. In 2011 the Pats were coming off a 14-2 season, they could afford to take luxury picks and plan ahead. Our situation is not like theirs. The Peat pick cannot be evaluated in a vacuum.

I'm not saying you have to hate it. I'm just saying that if you're gonna like the pick, it can't be because the woeful Titans picked a tackle last year or the because Patriots drafted Solder 4 years ago.

If the Patriots knew about light, what makes any of you think Saints down know about strief? Exactly. It's never a sexy pick but a guy that can lock a side for 10 years is something you want, especially since it's arguably the 2nd most important part of the offense. Hell, our starter is in his 30s you don't know how long you have left.

Don't know at all. My only point here was that the premise of this thread and that of the post referencing the Pats pick in 2011 are completely useless and irrelevant.

I haven't attacked the position in favor of the pick. Just OP's and other poster's perspective. I don't understand the pick, but I'm reserving judgment.
